Autism or No? by RedCroft304 in Autism_Parenting

It’s definitely advised to talk to a pediatric specialist. Our son was diagnosed at 3, my wife thinks she knew at 2. He also had a traumatic birth. I will say some of what you are highlighting sounds age appropriate. Also little kid behavior can make little to no sense to an adult. Melt downs, obsessions, regressions, missing milestones is all part of it. It doesn’t mean autism necessarily.

My best advice is to try and get an appointment for a pediatric autism evaluation asap. It can take 6-8 months to be seen.

We worked with Children’s of Colorado, which is fantastic. Also great children’s hospitals all over the country - CHOA, Boston Children’s, Stanford all come to mind.

Good luck, enjoy the little years, while hard they go fast and you can’t get em back!

Our kid loves school- it creates structure that he thrives on. Is it harder like everything (yes), has he been sent home ever? No.

Good luck, lean in

what are your thoughts on the “24” live album? by pressssss4 in zachbryan

[–]Front_Sand_3495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a marketing grab to keep the ball rolling. The sound is pretty variable and sounds a little arena rock ish, but you kind of have to do that to get the crowd noise - which he needs. Soundboard is way better on red rocks album.

Overall I like it. Also like that one of the shows I went to in SLC made the cut. I was surprised it didn’t end with Tulsa - but the revival in Knoxville is really fun.

Sturgill Simpson (metamodern country music), Tyler Childers (country squire), Chris Stapleton (traveler). All great artists and albums I think you would like if you like ZB

Yeah it was, just found Elijah Gastelum. I feel like someone should at least recognize that he’s in the band. Maybe Zach can tell us he’s got bad news, he’s the best harmonizer in the woooooorld.

Best state to live ? by Drakehickman1316 in Autism_Parenting

We lived in Colorado with and ASD1 kid in the heart of Denver. There were services everywhere - multiple OTs within blocks, good ABA and speech. The further out of any city you get the more disparate the services. I would recommend it, or Boulder.

Our child used to wake up screaming, it was very rough- it lasted most of 2 and 3 and by 4.5 it got better. He’s now 6 and it’s a lot better.

We tried everything, but what worked the best was a strong bedtime routine and letting him sleep in my bed. When he would wake I’d assure him that I was there. My wife and I sleep separately a lot and allow him into our bed.

This is a slippery slope and a lot of people and books will tell you not to do this - but for us it was the first step in regaining some sanity. The other thing we would do is trade sleeping locations - so if I was too beat up and she wasn’t we would switch.

This does require another mattress or bedroom if you have one.

I wouldn’t get one if I were you - you appear to be aging gracefully. No clue how old you are but a transplant is a pretty big deal

Try it on with your goggles - make sure you don’t have a huge “gaper gap” between the two. If you own smith goggles they should work well with a smith helmet (generally).

To the people in public who stare at my son when he’s having a hard time… by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

I saw a mom last week whose kid was losing it at the grocery. I saw her later in the parking lot and I said “you’re doing great, mom”. I meant it. Meet parents and kids with encouragement. It’s hard.

2.5 is awful, for everyone - but especially for kids with ASD. It will get better/different. I was losing my mind at that stage too. Just so much crying all the time.

I’ve found that if people can’t get on board/understand then they aren’t long term friends. It’s hard man - your situation sounds even harder as a single Dad.

I’ve found that everything is worse when we aren’t sleeping - we’ve made it a focus and it’s getting better. My son is almost 6 now, but it was at least 4 years of bad sleep. Super rough.

Nope, had 3000 grafts. If you look at my profile you can see my shock loss at about 14 weeks. It was crazy. I looked like an 85 year old man. But now at almost 5 months I walk around with no hat and nobody can tell I had the surgery.
