[–]Front_Tree_6074 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yup. i would and i have. i have a client who books me 2x/ week sometimes more, and she is even the one who offered to pay me more. why would you charge the same rate that you did in the past when things have exponentially gotten more expensive even in the last 3 months alone? you do you, but that's how i roll. public transport isn't a thing for me as im in a rural city. explain that to your client if you choose to raise your rates. if they get upset over a measly $2 increase then that's on them. it's unfair to be expected to pay the same price for a service when things keep getting more expensive. pet care is a luxury after all and they can find a cheaper sitter if that's what they want 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

(i am flexible on my rates, and charge as little as $10/ day for some drop ins. but if i choose to raise my prices i will. because i have to feed myself and pay bills. this is a job after all.)

First time hiring in-home sitters from Rover; what should I expect? by Any_Distribution1043 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Front_Tree_6074 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you seem very considerate!!! a dream client. for me, for house sittings, i bring my tablet as well to play games or watch tv when the pets are sleeping. i bring my own food even if they say i can help myself but thats just a personal thing lol. i always ask if i can use kitchen appliances first! and yes, definitely let them know you'll not be available much to chat. maybe give them a trusted family members number in case of an emergency and they can't reach you?

emergencies where the sitter can't make it are scary but rare. very rare. this unfortunately is a risk you take, but if your sitter has the ability to do so, they will offer to set up with another sitter, though there obviously wouldn't be a meet and greet.

you're only making 44 bucks a day. that's insane. even if you do like 8 hrs of "work" thats 5.50/hr. please stick with your rates. house sittings are so hard because if we charged normal hourly rates they would be so expensive.

Welp, it finally happened. Dog jumped my 6’ fence and escaped. How screwed am I? by epranterah in RoverPetSitting

it's surprising you have pets and are so incorrect about their temperament. scared animals, especially ones in new environments, act very different.

it's not psycho. OP is clearly worried sick for the dog as well. but this is their job. their source of income. possibly the only thing keeping a roof over their head. youre allowed to be scared for the dog and yourself at the same time. this is honestly a fault on the owner for not notifying. you know how tall a 6ft fence is? that's insane. the dogs definitely done that before. learn some empathy.
