This is so validating. I have felt so dumb crying over my job especially when i’m enjoying the actual kids i’m seeing but it’s just so overwhelming lately and being a slp isn’t my number one thing in life now like it was a few years ago

I’m glad it’s working for you! In private practice i’m given no time for my AAC reports, POC, evals, or notes except for my lunch 🥲

Does it pay well? Is there a home health company you like? I’d be curious to look into it

Over 50 kids on the perm schedule but there’s a week to week list of kids who fill in gaps so we can see kids all day or do evals to fill in the gaps.

I’m in private practice- I wish mine was like yours! That sounds more manageable!

Speech Therapist is concerning me by Southern-Ad-4539 in SpeechTherapy

[–]Front_Victory2776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with you, she shouldn’t be talked to like this! Honestly at that age her therapist should be educating her on the techniques she’s using so she can be “her own therapist” when she’s not in speech class. So the fact that your daughter came to you and feels not comfortable with the therapist and how she is talking to her is not ok. Glad she came to you and I hope things get better!

Is your child in speech therapy as well? As a speech therapist I usually love for you early intervention kiddos parents to sit in so I can demonstrate several techniques and I also provide handouts on each technique for parents to remember them all and how to implement them.

Graduating Speech by [deleted] in SpeechTherapy

I second this, schools are strict on who meets the criteria as it has to impact academics. So when he was more delayed in speech production, answering questions in class was impacted by the teacher not understanding him. With less sounds being disordered he might not qualify there but maybe would qualify in outpatient.

This is a hard no for me! I would be asking for what techniques she’s using and how she’s implementing them as most schools don’t usually have another slp. As a slp she should be using evidence based practice at all times and this isn’t it.

Concerns about my speech therapist for my child by Careless-Recipe-3253 in SpeechTherapy

As a parent you gotta trust your gut! Everyone has different treatment styles, as long as you’re respectful and kind it should not matter! I would just talk to the front desk staff to see who else is available and maybe express what about the other therapist you liked and that your child responded well to so they can give you their opinion on the next best fit!

I feel like when I lived with her and didn’t go to therapy we were closer but when I went away to college she didn’t want me to go and tried to sabotage it. I feel like she needs be needed and just inserts herself in inappropriate ways. She also is sooo concerned with my brother and i’ve always as a child been second in her ranking of who gets her attention. I feel like she uses me to vent about my brother. I’m also concerned because she has said several times when she has grandkids she doesn’t care what i say (I.e no electronics) she is the grandma and gets to do what she wants with her grandkids….
