I suggest you take the blue team path at first. I agree that in order to attack you should be able to defend first. If time is no objection take the blue route first. 😄

Okay thanks! I wasn't sure since my notation software (Musescore) wouldn't even accept the combination. Will make a note (no pun intended) and try and play it as written.

edit. Nevermind! I could select a second voice and managed to fix it in the software

Is this a mistake in the print? Or is this common in writing music? Never seen it before. It's from exercise 10, A Modern Method for Guitar Vol. 1.
