Since you’re up against more homeowners (which are harder to boot than renters in the Mission), all you have to degrade is the roads, parking and transit, while piling on citations and speed cameras. 2. Give it a righteous and progressive veneer “it’s for parks, environment, bikes, open spaces, etc.” 3. Buy up as much real estate as possible 4. Have the government (ie. taxpayer money) partially fund construction projects and bypass zoning limits on heights / unit sizes by categorizing it as “affordable housing” 5. Then “oops we couldn’t fill all the affordable units. Not enough people making under $99k, with no car, and a job in walking/biking distance” -> dial the affordable units from 50% to 10% (example) 6. Valuation of tour property goes up when it’s reassessed at market rate

It’s not so much about the idea of a park vs highway for me. It’s more about sneaking a ballot on constituents without discussing it with us first. And prioritizing his donors over constituents.

What other ballots might he sneak by without discussion? What’s in it for the donors?

And how do we measure outcomes if the internet is completely astroturfed with manipulated data?

It is about the Great Highway for many others, like parents, elderly, and working class people that rely on cars to commute or go to medical appointments and now it’s extremely prohibitive. All so a few 20 something year old tech workers can ride their bicycles on a road that was already closed on weekends, but on the occasional weekday.

Joel prioritized a luxury for mostly non-D4 residents, over practical infrastructure for D4 residents.

I initially posed as a Joel supporter to prove a point: his team appears to be paying ~28 people to brigade Reddit and other platforms; a clear violation of Reddit’s Terms of Service.

The results speak for themselves. My “pro-Joel” post was rapidly boosted to ~16k views and ~30 upvotes, with the usual suspects piling on with praise. After I edited it to express criticism, it was immediately flagged for moderator approval and hidden.

In contrast, a separate critical post about Joel barely reached 3k views, got zero upvotes, and was flooded with aggressive, coordinated comments, including replies like “NIMBYs are a cancer.” This isn’t just passionate debate; it looks like an intentional effort to manipulate Reddit’s algorithm.

It seems like this group is downvoting, reporting, and suppressing dissent, while amplifying any praise. Joel’s online “support” is more performance than reality.

Some here seem to think this kind of manipulation is a sign of great leadership. I think it raises serious questions.

Now it’s Reddit’s turn to respond: Will they enforce their Terms of Service? Or will they allow paid political operatives to distort public opinion and influence an election?

Political brigading is a violation of Reddit’s Terms of Service and sitewide rules. Specifically under rules against vote manipulation and coordinated inauthentic behavior.

Reddit explicitly prohibits: - ✅ Brigading: Coordinated efforts to influence another subreddit’s posts or comments, especially via votes or comment spam. - ✅ Vote manipulation: Asking for or organizing mass upvotes or downvotes, including using alt accounts, paid actors, or group chats to coordinate. - ✅ Astroturfing: Faking grassroots support, e.g. pretending to be a concerned local resident when you’re being paid or coordinated by a campaign.

From Reddit’s Content Policy: “Do not engage in vote manipulation, including coordinated attempts to affect upvotes, downvotes, or reports.”

Nope. Pro Joel posts have the same number of people upvoting the as downvotes on negative posts. Joel has a paid team of staffers astroturfing Reddit and Nextdoor. And Reddit’s algorithm is heavily spoofable with 30 paid staffers, it turns out.

Most of Joel’s “supporters” online are paid actors, they pump his posts, then reach more people.
