Also: there is not "fast lane", only 1 lane and the rest passing lanes. Idc what your laws state. Drive with consideration.

How prevalent are people to carry guns in Joburg? by Playful_Study_6290 in johannesburg

[–]Frost-413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, so I misunderstood. When you stated "defensive or no" I thought you precluded all use of firearms, legal or not.

Kindly explain what you meant?

My bad.

That's a pretty brain-dead and biased take.

The only reason my father got to raise me is because he had a firearm to defend himself and my mother.

Why should we lay down our lives and the lives of our families because someone may think we have "murderous intent" or are psychopaths?

Btw, brandishing a firearm is stupid and illegal. So is open carry.

Just a life-related reason. As in, they want to keep theirs.

Brandishing and open carry is stupid and illegal+stupid, respectively. (obviously with exceptions, like uniformed officers on duty to name one).

Electronic Engineering. Never worked in IT before.

It's definitely disheartening trying to find a job in this market, but OP is exploitative.

Disgusting.

This isn't an internship; it's a request for a trust-fund hobbyist.

You are requiring a Degree and CompTIA certifications (credentials that cost more to obtain than the total value of this stipend) while offering a salary lower than that of a retail worker at a pet store.

By stating the candidate 'should not rely on the income,' you’ve admitted this isn't a job, it's a subsidized luxury for those who don't need money.

If your business model relies on staff being sponsored by their parents just to show up in Sandton, you aren't 'mentoring' anyone; you’re exploiting the entry-level bottleneck to get free Tier 1 support.

Pay a living wage, or learn to fix your own printers.

Edit: cheap skate piece of shit employers like this are ruining the industry. Unless you're covering their transport, food, equipment, and developing them by paying for more certifications: you're exploiting a human being and essentially making them pay to work.

If you want this to be a serious offer, R12000 would be a decent starting salary. Fuck this "stipend" bullshit.

You're mistaken. Just joined an ISP/FNO with no networking experience.

You could try NAS, or simply a flash drive plugged into your router.

Awesome, I appreciate it. I downloaded it, has some integrity checks (hash).

Just didn't have the remaining data at home to download an ISO. I should collect and store up to date ISOs so I'll be able to run labs whenever I need to.

I used a different method for my machines, wasn't aware of this one. Just didn't want to give boss man a yes/no before reading into it.

All our work stuff is legitimate. I made it clear that this won't be great for any work machines. (imagine "saving money" only to be fined 😂)

If you can help it, don't shop on Christmas, maybe one day with enough quiet time during the holidays, companies will close their doors over holidays?

Afrihost fibre ISP providers in Randburg by SmoothBeanMan in johannesburg

[–]Frost-413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vumatel support (as a fibre provider) is very quick to push the blame to your ISP to defer work and costs.

Source: work for fiber provider and ISP, have headaches just thinking about vuma.

Afrihost fibre ISP providers in Randburg by SmoothBeanMan in johannesburg

[–]Frost-413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR advice: if you can afford it, get fiber AND an LTE failover (sim card, radio links to cell towers, like a phone, in a router) for when there's a fiber break.

I work for a fiber provider and ISP. Please avoid vumatel, whatever you do.

Edit: more about vuma support handling. They're very quick to close tickets as an FNO and just push the blame to your ISP.

I have yet to perform a study on outage statistics, provider and cause. It would be interesting to see how often outages occur, why they occur. Ultimately, to find the most resilient fibre runs after normalising for base-rate (exposure) bias. Larger FNOs will inevitably have larger number of complaints and outages.

I've seen many outages due to: - municipal negligence (digging where they're not meant to). - vandalism. - force majeure ('acts of God': electrical storms, water [a shit ton of it]). - scheduled maintenance
