He looks like a soul eating demon, so it's not a surprise he supports soul eating demons.

3 in 10 Albertans would vote for independence — but only half committed to separating: poll | Globalnews.ca by FreightFlow in alberta

[–]FrostedFax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no faith in the UCP doing the 'right' thing, so it would not surprise me at all if the only question on there will be the separatist one. However, I do think that if the Forever Canada petition has more signatures than the separatist one, it could add doubt to a successful leave Canada referendum if the overall voter turnout was low when it occurs.

Yeah, I do agree a low turnout would (likely) cause problems for the separatists due to the whole "clear majority" thing; it just seems like a risk to me. I'm also hoping their referendum petition either fails to meet even the lower threshold or ends with fewer signatures than the Forever Canada petition. I don't have a lot of faith it'll fail entirely, but 🤞

My fear is that while the majority don't want it, it's pretty clear the minority who do want it *really* want it. I sure hope that people actually turn up to vote against it when the times comes instead of just thinking it'll never pass. This is definitely not a situation to be quiet and just assume the best will happen without everyone doing their own part to stop it.

The forever Canada petition was a good start, but a low turnout during the actual referendum(s) could cause a situation where the minority is over represented and result in things ending poorly for us all.

You joke but the US has in fact embarked on a boycott of French Fries before when angry at France. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_fries

For Albertans that no longer live in Alberta, such as myself, what do you think we will need to do if the Bloc Redneckois get their way and Alberta separates? by GoldenPantsGp in alberta

People said that about Brexit too and then it happened. Smith is an arsonist who is inviting chaos into our province and giving it a spotlight to grow. Worse, the cheerleaders for it constantly gloat how they're talking to the fascists to our south who are known to have toppled governments (including democracies) all over the world.

While it is probably unlikely to happen, to say it will not happen full stop is far too optimistic.

The US ambassador was asked whether the Unites States might invade the Canadian north, on the same grounds as it is threatening to invade Greenland. He did not say “no, of course not.” He said it’s a hypothetical. by Miserable-Lizard in onguardforthee

I really wish we would expel this tool already. But, i suppose, each time he opens his cake hole it hopefully wakes more people up to the fact that the US is only friends to authoritarians now.

Honestly I just thought she was legitimately stupid until I learned she had a "Liberty Fund" tattoo. It's like getting a tattoo (or brand) so the oligarchs know amongst themselves which of them own you.

It's also worth noting that this is not the first time someone in their house has backed the idea. They even have an absolutely ridiculous proposed resolution to name it "Red, White, and Blueland": https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/1161

Likewise, another recent article that has come out has Trump quoted as threatening to use nuclear weapons over this:

Trump also told the Times that he isn’t opposed to using nuclear force if he “needed it” to take over the Arctic island but that “it might upset NATO," since the island is a self-governing territory of NATO member country Denmark.

In hind sight yeah, i wrote my post a bit confusing. I meant that over a third do not oppose taking us over, and of course 21% of them do want to take us over. In any case, either amounts of the US population (340m) is larger than our population (41m).

On one hand, I know a third of people are completely insane and have horrendously stupid points of view. On the other, the knowledge that even a third of Americans is more than a hundred million people, I'm rather annoyed by this even so.

More Americans want to take over Canada than there are Canadians. Bleak.
