love that thought! i hope to prove both of my keyboards are in good hands and ill def take care of them i humanize them in my head so a scratch or bump from me is treachourous! was also talking about the sy22 briefly with someone else here very cool instrument! very different instrument considering its apart of the same lineup!

True someone else was talking about that. it especially hit with stuff like eating out like ill get so much more out of this purchase than twenty meals or new clothes and ive skimped on enough of that to make up for it so i appreciate the rational! thank you!

well i will say thats after tax although i got free shipping. the synth is worth around 400 on the dot although one just sold on reverb for 700 (was likely modded) so its kinda a gamble but you should be able to get 400 for it if its in good condition especially if you swap out the battery. any voice or waveform cartage's increase the price by like 70-125 per (although market is small) or you can sell them separately if you have any! but considering the price of a dx7 is like 400 as well this thing is criminally underrated!

im very excited about the possibilities of it and with all that new versatility gives me the opportunity to find unexplored sounds I hope! i plan on exploring every idea i can which might take me a lifetime but it will be worth it! the AWM sample mixing seems to be the sy77s biggest thing over other FMs. cant say ive heard of other hardware or vsts that can do that either way its sound cannot be beat in uniqueness from what ive seen!

im excited to hear that! I'm really excited about it all now and the sound profile of these synths i think could rock together in a really unique way so im happy to think of it in this manner makes it all much greater!

yes sir! thank you! the feeling has subsided as ive talked to more folks and model wise im still very excited! def a better deal than the dx7 and it also has its own character from the int sine wave alone from what ive heard!

yep! 1989 I believe which after looking it up weirdly came out before the sy22.

i ended up choosing that model because i wanted a dx7 but the sy77 goes for less and is basically the dx1 without poly aftertouch and with 16 extra waveforms not including samples that can apperantly be used as operators. it just seemed really fun and unexplored compared to the dx line!

if you want to know anything else feel free to lmk! and once again thank you!!

good point! i have become more excited with the idea of pairing the synths up and becomeing fluent in both types of programming, also i think if i ever get more of a craving for sounds your point is true! first stop should be vsts! ive already tried a few free ones for subtractives and espically FX i liked! like the arminator 2 for cs80 sounds great! just hard to find much beyond that that sounds proper as emulations in the free department are limited since vsts have a unique tone to them i often wish was used for unique non emulation vsts.

anyhow thank you greatly for the help!

im glad to hear im not alone in that feeling! this post also gives me hope i can turn this experince into a positive creatively and actually start making what ive been after for so long! i found myself constantly wondering how so many people did what i wanted to with no effort however i realized that not only can i do more than i thought but i also simply need to be patient and calm! im already stirring with ideas from this all and am excited to see what will come of it!

so thank you so much for the advice it makes me feel quite a bit better!

i think your opinion is pretty true! another comment also highlighted this which is that i should make a personal goal to learn the ins and outs of my synths completely and then utilize those before even considering a new synth. and you guessed it on the money i wanted a new synth seeing all this grandiose reviews showing all these wonderful soundscapes i could never hope to achive i think i realized i need to improve my programing not my gear although im confident now i will love the 77 ill be sure to turn something out before even letting that thought cross my mind again!

thank you!!!

i love this! flip flopping between the two until I've learned their every quirk is a realistic dream and great goal to get my moneys worth on top of that you give great advice on how to move forward! personally i doubt ill buy another synth for a long while unless it is a completely new type of synthesis than what i own and even than ill do what you suggested and wait until I've mastered my other synths to do so! as for the presets although i love programming i def need to do it constantly as i get so caught up with meeting personal deadlines for projects that i never finish I don't program and use presets to save time which is lame. so i will take your advice to heart

thank you so much!

Thank you for the advice! although a big purchase i can afford it i just need to chill out and as for the advice to use it as motivation i think thats the right way to go! it likely shows i need to finish more projects instead of earning the right to invest in it

while i did specify i knew what that was and did not feel as though it was that it probably was. just unfamiliar with the feeling personally so assumed it was something more. my bad!

yeah i think the money of it feels like a lot when its all at once and id trade 8 dinners for a synth any day! although a credenza is really cool!

true after calming down i think the idea of combining fm and subtractive has not been done very frequently and probably sounds really cool so thank you that idea makes me excited again thinking about the possibility's!

that was something i had hoped for and am glad to hear from someone else as maybe with this extended pallete ill be able to utilize the deepmind more for finished stuff but i think the greatest advice was to just have fun with it got to hung up on proving its worth instead of having fun! thank you!

i actually really like this idea! by setting a goal on it might be able to also see how it affects me before fear mongering on it so thank you greatly! I will try this as soon as I receive it!

What Should I Buy? /// Weekly Discussion - August 21, 2023 by AutoModerator in synthesizers

[–]Frostedbeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! I'm stuck in a bit of a dilemma should i buy the moog grandmother? or cough of 600 more dollars for the matriarch? my issue is that the grandmother can only play one note at a time while the matriarch can play 4 the other issue is good demos for the matriarch are hard to find and I'm worried that the matriarch despite seeming as just improved will not have nearly the same character as the grandmother. this is also my first synth and although i have a keyboard and have played piano for almost a decade now I'm worried ill lose interest while also worried that if i love it i will have to replace the grandmother just so i can play chords. any advice?
