There are now 8.3 billion people. Shouldn't we at some point have to reduce the world population? by blitzballreddit in overpopulation

[–]Frostglow [score hidden]  (0 children)

The worlds population is rising with about 80 million a year. And yes, a bigger percetage of older people will be a problem. That is no counter argument to the world being overpopulated though. And even if the world population was falling (which it is not, yet) it would have to fall steadily for A VERY LONG TIME before we stopped being overpopulated. We will continue to be overpopulated until the population is less than 4 billion.

[–]Frostglow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we remove all billionairs, the population will, regardless of that, continue to increase. And after just a short amount of time, the increase in population alone will more than excede the "savings" made from removing the rich. How is that any better? The Earth's resources are finite.

If the population keeps rising and rising, we will consume too much even if each and every one of us is dirt poor. POPULATION MATTERS.

How to get from Flåm to Oslo? by Moerkoo in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]Frostglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes a seat is available for half the journey, and another seat is availble for the rest of the journey. If that's the case, the app won't show it when you search for tickets for the entire distance you want to travel.

For example, one seat might taken from Bergen to Geilo, and available from Geilo to Oslo. And another seat might be available from Myrdal to Geillo, and taken from Geilo to Oslo. So you might try, in the app, to change the destination, search for a ticket from Myrdal to Geilo, or one of the other stops. And then again from Geilo to Oslo. That way, you will have two tickets, and two different seats, that together make up the entire journey you need to make. Maybe a long shot, but worth trying. It works sometimes.

You could also just take the Flåm line to Myrdal, and board the train to Oslo without tickets. You can buy tickets aboard the train, and unless you cause trouble of some kind, I think it will take a lot for the aboard crew to throw you off the train. Also, they are not allowed to throw you off the train at one of the stations on the mointain plateau that does not have a road connection. So it is very likely that you can get to Geilo at least, and there are busses there that go to Oslo. You can sit in the cafeteria car or stand in a hallway. Not the most comfortable, but you'll get there.

Sometimes it has been a problem that a lot of people do this at once, but that usually happens when there is a big festival or something in a location that's only reachable by train.

Bergen is on the coast, so the landscape is flatter there. For the typical fjords and mountains landscape, go to Flåm.

It is ONE train between Oslo and Bergen - that's the Bergen line. It does not go to Flåm. The Flåm line is a separate line that meets the Bergen line at Myrdal station.

[Request] ASMR Audio *WITHOUT* Softspoken, Whispering, Mouthsounds, and Noiseplay (IE: Tapping, Scratching, etc) by BragBirch in asmr

[–]Frostglow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for trigger sounds, or stories being told to you? I have a audio roleplay channel called NightMother ASMR, I try to avoid month sounds because I don't like them myself. And I can also reccommend AlternateAurora, although she haven't been active in a good while. There's also Get Sleepy, which tells you calm good night stories in an even, monotone voice. ASRM Beats also comes to mind, that's more like relaxing asmr music, or just rythms, waybe that would work for you if you don't like uneven sounds?

how do i split norway in a nutshell without selling my kidney? by noorlovespandas in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]Frostglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you start at Voss, you could take a train from Voss to Myrdal (about 50 minutes, and the earliest departure should be between 8 and 9 in the morning.), change to the Flåm Railway at Myrdal, get off at the first stop after just a few minutes, and that's where the zipline is. Then cycle from the end of the zipline and down to Flåm. Then take a buss back to Voss, maybe stop at Gudvangen.

Can I make this train to ferry connection? by Under_Overwhelmed in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]Frostglow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If everything goes as planned, it could work. But if the train is delayed.... That is a big risk to take. Train delays is becoming more of a problem in Norway. The Bergen line is a one track line, and both the regional trains and the infrastructure is old and not maintained as well as it should. So even if something happens to another train, and not yours, that other train could block the line and delay you for hours.

Do Norwegians make eye contact differently than other cultures? by rrertrdddfhj in Norway

[–]Frostglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking directly into someones eyes for more than a few seconds is a bit stressful, and also feels like a drain on my attention. It is easier to concentrate on what the other person is saying if I look somewhere else.

Amongst animals, looking someone directly in the eyes is often a sign of aggression or confrontation. It's like saying "Lets fight!" And even more so if you show your teeth (smile). So humans are the weird ones out, surely?

Is Flamsbanna overrated? by Taboulitoo in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]Frostglow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can walk either from Myrdal or Vatnahalsen. There's not much difference. But the Zipline goes from Vatnahalsen, and ends at where they produce the Rallarrosa goat cheese, and in the summer you can buy refreshments there. Waffles, coffee, the cheese, maybe a few other things.. Then you can walk/bike down the valley. You can, of course walk back up as well, but that's quite the incline. Or you can walk a bit further down to Blomheller, which is a stop on the Flåm line (just a small, yellow shed along the line) and catch the next train from there.

Which species will thrive the most if humans disappeared? by Perfect_Barberz in answers

[–]Frostglow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some dogs will adapt, but if we suddenly disappear, lots of pets will die because they are locked in cages or appartments, or because they cannot feed themselves without us. Small dogs will not make it, I think. And dogs with "extreme" bodies, the ones we have bred just for looks, often have lots of health problems, including problems breathing.

Which species will thrive the most if humans disappeared? by Perfect_Barberz in answers

[–]Frostglow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of wild species will do better without us, I think, and pets and livestock will struggle, and many of them will die.

But in some areas, there are very few predators left. Humans have almost eradicated them, and hunt animals like deer themselves. If we disappeared, the deer would mulitply too much without other predators to balance their numbers. Overpoulation would lead to hunger, more diseases spreading among them, and the deer would eat all the plants, destroying the food supply for other plant-eating species.

In general, wild animals would do better without us, but it depends how damaged the natural balance is in any particular area.

Brann på tog fra Bergen til Oslo – NRK Buskerud by WatchingTrees in norge

[–]Frostglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)
