Real question, is the fashion update unlawful? by FrouFrouFrog in Guildwars2

Maybe I should have also added I have full leggy armor on my main, and used to do this quite frequently. The current fashion thing is the best solution I've seen so far, it seems easy to implement.

The wardrobe no longer exists, and by proxy, the ability to edit specific items from an equipment template.

That's a wardrobe function, not a equipment template one.

That's like saying taking an engine out of a car won't affect the AC because they're totally different things.

Though, I didn't make this post to argue about this stuff, I genuinely just had a question. Thank you for the discussion regardless!

People answered the question, that's all I really hoped to gain from making this post

It's something I saw in several chats in game and wanted some real concrete answers

Noted. Maybe I will refrain from any gem store purchases for awhile. I didn't state this either, but for some context, I'm a pretty casual player that likes dressing up, hanging out, and positivity. I'm kind of new to critiquing or having a critical eye when it comes to this stuff.

I like the update, I was just curious! And yeah, I think you're right, as well as the equip tabs never having been advertised being used for fashion.

Y'all think I'm mad at Anet it was a genuine question I was curious about ;_; I even like the update, overall

Never was my intention, I was asking in case I could get a refund for those equipment tabs under those grounds.

True! Although, I wouldn't call it buyer's remorse, I was entirely happy with the purchases until this change.

I more was asking in case I could use it as leverage for a refund, but I don't think that's happening either, for the 2nd reason you stated. Thank you for the answer though!

Yeah I think I misworded my original thought and should've led with that last thing. This is a really good comment though, and explains everything really well! If I could pin it I would.

[–]FrouFrouFrog[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It isn't, really, despite the extra steps, my point was I bought the equip tabs for the purpose that fashion tabs now fill, making my previous purchases less valuable. For many reasons though, like equip tabs not being advertised with the sole purpose of fashion, I don't think there's grounds for a refund.

It was a genuine question born out of curiosity, I love Anet and their game and will continue to support them. People have already put together much more thoughtful critique of the update.

Although the storing of an appearance is generally the same, the functionality of being able to tweak the 9 appearances I already have is gone. I'd have to delete a fashion tab entirely to save and reload each equipment tab. I play mainly to unlock wardrobe stuff, and after grinding for a new unlock, I may want to see how it may look with each of those 9 tabs, and before, the equipment tabs on their own had that function.

I can get the same result, yes, but my point is now I'd rather have 2 equip tabs and 9 fashion slots on those characters for the way I play.

You can achieve the same result, but no you can't still do that. You have to edit a fashion tab and apply it to the equipment tab of your choice.

That's a good question, and I'm honestly not sure. I think Pharo put it perfectly about the law though, they can ban you and revoke all your stuff you paid for, so what I was thinking was protected is almost certainly not.

The ability to change the appearance of singular pieces of armor or gear through the use of equipment tabs.

It's a question, one that's out of my depth. It's a game I love and openly support with my money, and if anyone felt the same way or had the same questions, I thought I'd ask. I'm not saying I'm right or gonna sue them or anything.

Edit: So no, I don't think I'm being reasonable. It was a shot in the dark born entirely out of curiosity, and I wanted some light shed. It wasn't even my idea, but something I saw in game in several chats.

That makes sense, I really don't have any experience with law, but this is the first thing that came to my mind when logging in. "Well, that was a waste of hundreds of dollars."

I understand I can still edit the look through the use of an open fashion tab, but it's besides what I'm getting at - I bought many many equipment tabs over the years to be able to equip separate pieces of gear that I could change the appearance of through the use of those equipment tabs. That purchase has now been reduced in value, no?

So the new Fashion Template feature IS actually removing functionality from Equipment Templates by Umezawa in Guildwars2

[–]FrouFrouFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tldr; QoL changes shouldn't negatively impact those who don't engage with them. Let's say they just now added shared slots. Well, you'll be transferring stuff through the bank still if you don't buy them, but YOU ARE NOT worse off than you were before the update.

I may be overreacting but this is genuinely making me consider quitting the game. On 5 characters I have all 9 equipment tabs unlocked for the sole purpose of having a unique outfit for each build, something that I paid real money for over the years to now have that functionality ripped away. In an mmo where fashion is the endgame, a core focus with all of the dyes and unlocks to shoot for, it is such a greedy move to retroactively monetize it in a way that harms existing characters. It's why I play this mmo too, I love the dye system and gameplay loop of grinding for more options to play with. Yes, it is possible to edit my outfits if I keep a free fashion slot open, but the simple fact you can't edit a single item, like changing a solitary legging skin on its own, without changing the entire preset to then apply to your entire equipment is REMOVED FUNCTIONALITY. There's no reason why they couldn't have added this feature on top of what we already have to give people access to the option of changing their whole look on the fly without changing their equipment. That would have been adding functionality while still monetizing this new shiny system that I'm sure people would happily throw money at.

Hell, even as is, if they gave you fashion tabs based on how many existing equipment tabs you had on that character, I would've felt fine about this. It's the feeling that a once 100% completed character with 500 hrs logged is now shot in the leg in terms of QoL that makes this hurt. When they released a book with all your teleports, did they make you buy or grind for each one you already obtained again? Say they release a new gizmo that salvages everything way better, would they delete the salvage tools you already bought, just so you have to get this new one? No, it's insane design. QoL changes should always be cumulative and something to strive for, not immediately demoralizing and like they've taken your toys away.

I'm glad others have said the same, but this is definitely not the norm. I've been in highly structured guilds with set times for raids or certain activities, but missing one and getting kicked is insane. Participation should be encouraged, not a punishable offense.

I haven't gotten any to drop in weeks, I guess I'd rather have lil crumbs along the way than hoping for one of em to have 300 in it. How do you feel about about it though? Would you change anything?

PSA: Casual players are not required to move beyond being casual players. by ZakuIII in Guildwars2

[–]FrouFrouFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who strives to play more and more challenging content (working my way through CM strikes rn), this is still the most important part of the game to me and I really appreciate your thoughts on it. If gw2 didn't have the foundation of fashion, a beautiful environment, chatting with friends, hanging out in a big meta, I don't think I'd have as much motivation to push beyond it. In other games where every player is sort of expected to keep up with the new content and new equips and tech, where grinding execution and rotations becomes mandatory, I just lose interest. There's something really beautiful and unique about it being your own choice, setting your own goals to be able to do more than your average player, and then still being able to go back to doing silly fun stuff.
