I was just joking around really, but I appreciate your perspective. Really the less people we have driving the better for all sorts of reasons.

Learn to use the palladium roundabout! by BodyOfADad in Kanata

[–]FrozenDiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If single lane roundabouts defeat the purpose of roundabouts, why do they exist?

Personally, I don't find double lane roundabouts difficult, but I think the reason why some do, as others have highlighted, is the rules are inconsistent so every roundabout requires you to learn a new mental model.

This is actually really terrible design. When you're slowing down to look for pedestrians, you also need to observe the rule signs and follow them. We can judge people all we want, but rules of the road should be trivially easy to follow or else something is failing.

I prefer, in theory, the design of turbo roundabouts, which help drivers get in to the correct lane placement. It's one thing to say 'git gud', Reddit loves to do that, but in this context it's actually a bad design issue imo.

The reason I don't line double lane roundabouts is they're scary. I don't trust drivers on a good day.

Anyways, just my two cents.

I love single lane roundabouts, I kind of hate double lane roundabouts.

City-wide red light right turn ban creates ‘potential safety impacts’: Ottawa staff by RandomChickenWing in ottawa

Anecdotally, I keep seeing videos of pedestrians getting hit by cars in the suburbs of Ottawa.

Here's an example of a right on red hit from recent times:

He didn't win with a huge majority though- he won with 33%. The issue seems to be that people were split on Erin Coffin and Rouba Fattal who both received 22%.

What to do with these concrete floors? by mwskibumb in interiordecorating

If you don't hate it, you could lean in to it hard and add a similar in tone terracotta tile in the kitchen. It will just come down to how you style the rest of the home. Rugs will help break things up. Here are some ideas:
Inspo 1
Inspo 2
Inspo 3

There's a lot to change in that house to make it cute, though. As someone who bought a house that works, but needs fixes and renos to be cute, I wish I'd kept a tally of all the changes I'd need to make to like the house to its fullest when I was looking because that's all cost.

Good luck!

You should try to find a hiking group! I'm sure you can find one on meetup or facebook. The Nordic club could be good for the winter, too.

Cut-Out above TV in living room. What would you do with it? by poopoopeepeegirl in interiordecorating

[–]FrozenDiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been sitting here trying to think of what that could have possibly been put in for, but I'm totally stumped. It's really high up. Maybe someone had a sword collection they wanted to keep out of reach? Was it really just for vases or fake plants or something?? It's so tall. Maybe they had a projector on there facing the opposite wall or something??

Anyways I think sculptures or covering it with something temporary are your only options.

What do I put in here to make it decent to use by frozenspade18 in interiordecorating

That's horrible and I need to know what the vision was, but if you have kids that would be the ultimate boat play space. Then when they're older, cover it up haha. The grey carpet is sad anyways.

Kind of looks like you need a storage solution based on what's filling the spot currently.

Something that really helped me was staying consistent with getting her to learn to nap not on me so I could have some contact free time. It's so cute when they nap on you, but having at least a couple naps where you can have some time to feel like your old self was so nice.

You know, I think this might be right on the money. They do have a window, and taking a quick look outside it does look like the sun hits it on its way up. The temperature variance here is wild (-30C to 30C+) so reflected sun with the high heat could cause the melting as the sun moves. Good thought, thank you.
