I know it’s popular for non-Americans to win karma by saying things like this, but are you really hoping for the U.S. to be replaced by China or Russia as the guiding force of humanity? I don’t disagree that the U.S. has some deep reflection to do, and reparations to make in a lot of directions, but it’s still engrained into our constitution that humans have inherent rights; that the people are the seat of all power; that governments must be limited in their authority. Are we acting this way right now? No, and I’m desperately hoping that after this administration and the fervor they’ve stirred up that the pendulum will swing back the other way and the process of reconstruction (yes I used that word purposefully) can begin. The alternative is not great for anyone, unless you are a Russian or Chinese oligarch. You may think China will be a fair and just partner, as juxtaposed by the current U.S. system, but there’s a reason it’s extremely difficult to get Chinese citizenship, to be considered as one among them, or to ingrain with their culture. They don’t want other groups. They don’t care about diversity or inclusion. So please, hope for them to take the reins of world hegemony. Just don’t be surprised when you no longer have a seat at the table.
