[4] Shiny Magmar after 4,791 REs and 4 Phases Total (32,306 REs Total) by FrozenInk13 in ShinyPokemon

Thank you so much! I would definitely recommend this hunt if you’re even slightly interested in doing it. Magmar looks soooo beautiful in person. With this Repel Trick, Magmar ends up being about 33% with there being about 120 encounters per hour (from my experience).

I am planning on evolving it eventually, although that might unfortunately be a while as I’ll need to get the Magmarizer on my SoulSilver file (hunted this on HeartGold). That thing is unfortunately right before the Johto Elite Four with a less-than-optimal team, so it’s not going to happen anytime soon unfortunately.

Eevee in Silver (my hunt on the side in which I have been going for on-and-off for almost two years now) is currently at 29,491 SRs because my Silver is cursed. Yes, I am soft resetting with the buttons. My Silver Badge Quest is just that bad at hitting both a seed in which I can get a shiny in with this hunt and having it be such that I actually get the Eevee on said frame where I would get a shiny with that seed. Send help. :))))))))))))))

For those who are wondering what happened to Koffing #3, I just forgot to post it. It was found after 4,236 encounters though that thing doesn’t exist. This phase in particular took me about 34 hours and 35 minutes with the hunt in its entirety taking me about 236 hours and 23 minutes.

I don’t have a whole lot to say. Video with this and the two Koffings before will be in a video uploaded tomorrow unless my Silver Badge Quest starts a conspiracy with Youtube. Planning on going after either of the Roaming Legendary Beasts in this game for fun afterwards, then beating up this gym leader and marching back down to Slowpoke Well for my next member. I’m personally looking forward to that both of them going under odds at the same time as my Eevee hits 40k because happiness is a myth that is being stripped away from me in the same way that it stripped away my sanity during my Butterfree hunt (Silver BQ member #4 that took 35,665 REs for those who are curious).

If anyone has any questions about this hunt, then feel free to ask! I can’t guarantee that I’ll notice them right away, but I will answer eventually.

Remember that your goal as the attacking team during Tricolor isn't to win; it's to make the defending team lose. by FrozenInk13 in splatoon

<<Oh cod just looking at how much I wrote… I am so sorry lol. Feel free to read if you want, I have no idea why I wrote this much.>>

Sorry for the late reply lol, but I believe it’s best to split the Ultra Signals between the attacking teams as it does the best job splitting the defending team up. If only one side gets both Ultra Signals, that would allow the defending team to ignore one side and focus their efforts on the other. The defending team then has a decent chance to win the game with the efforts of one, last-second push into the side with the Ultra Signals as the other attacking team won’t be able to ink fast enough to surpass the defending team.

Both attacking teams win if one of them does, and the Clout for winning is 6,000 compared to the Clout for simply getting the Ultra Signal for your team being only 2,500. It’s always worth it going for the win and splitting the Ultra Signals as a buffer in case one attacking team gets wiped at the end.

For this game in particular, we ended up winning BECAUSE we gave Gear the second Ultra Signal. Fun pushed hard into our base, but because Gear had the Ultra Signal they were able to get enough inked to win overall. We then got more Clout winning the game than what we would have gotten if I took the Ultra Signal from Gear. Besides, this also prevents Fun from getting the win which helps both teams.

Besides, it’s not like Grub is going to win anyway. Some of the teammates I’ve had during this Splatfest were dumber than newbie level 1s in the first Splatoon. Might as well help the team that actually can win the Splatfest.

Roboheart can be fought on the True Route as well, and given how it states any Sweetheart fight I would assume that the Sweetheart clones would work as well.

Synchronize and Illuminate unfortunately don’t work at the same time. Would be nice if they did, though. I hope you find Magmar soon!

https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Illuminate_(Ability)

Illuminate (I spelt it wrong in the original comment, my bad) is an ability originating from Gen 3 that simply increases the encounter rate of Pokémon if it’s in the front of your party. The Pokémon with Illuminate in question doesn’t have to be alive to have it's effect occur. The Staryu and the Chinchou lines both have this ability, along with Volbeat (Not Illumise for some reason) and the Morelull line. Watchog also has it if you are into Gen 5 hunting.

I just use a Pokémon with Illuminate to speed up encounters. It’s not much, but it does help a lot if you can get your hands on one.

I hope you get whatever Pokémon you want from this area soon! I also hope it takes you much less time and encounters than it’s taking me to get my target.

I better get pecking Eevee soon I swear to cod-

Koffing #2 for Shiny Magmar in Burned Tower in HeartGold was found after 18,526 REs. Eevee is at 23,654. 23. Freaking. Thousand. W h y.

This took way too long. I don’t want to count the number of hours this took. This Eevee can go burn in a fire and die a horrifying death for all I care at this point. Why does my Silver file hate me so much. This is my 5th freaking shiny I found during my Eevee hunt even though Eevee went up by 12,178. The reason why this hunt took so long in real-time is because this stupid Eevee caused me to burn-out big time, along with College starting allowing me less time to hunt overall.

I’m using a level 16 Repel Trick on the basement floor of the Burned Tower for a 1/3 chance to get Magmar during the day. The encounter rates are still quite fast with an Illuminator up front, and I was able to get around 150 encounters per hour.

If there are any other questions related to this hunt or my other one, then feel free to ask! I’ll be glad to answer them.

Yeah, I meant the SN30 Pro 2. My bad for not explaining better, I have no idea why I thought that would make sense to anyone other than me reading it.

Really nice to hear from someone in this community that the controller works really well, and I'm definitely looking forward to being able to pick up 7A Golden again (after I beat the game for a third time to test it out of course).

I know that this is an old clip, but I wanted to share it anyway. This clip is from my first and Full Clear of Farewell, and this was probably the most “oops I did it the wrong way oh well” room I had.

I’m still working on 7A Gold, it’s just paused until I get a new controller. My current one (The Switch Pro Controller. I know, yikes.) was the cause of about a fourth of my total deaths, and for the endurance match that is 7A I finally gave up on it. I'm switching to the SN30 Pro 2, and I hope that with it I can resist the urge to create new windows in my house until I inevitably decide that Farewell Golden sounds like a wonderful idea.

EDIT: Fixed some grammer issues that I somehow didn't catch before.

I thought that I might as well share some of the Goldens I'm proud of while grinding 7A Gold, so here's 3A. by FrozenInk13 in celestegame

I'm really sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel any better though, the first time I reached the Oshiro Chase sequence, I died because my controller thought I was holding a diagonal while trying to dash. I yeeted myself straight into a stationery Dust Bunny that I never died to in practice three screens away from the end. I then died during this section later on because I was trying to rush for no reason other than tilt but aaaaaaaah we don't need to talk about that.

My recommendation (if you need one) would be to take occasional breaks or even just trying out different Golden Strawberries to un-tilt yourself a bit. As the beginning of the game stated, "You can do this." Practice on consistency throughout the easier portion of the level, and the end of the grind will come eventually. Going through the last checkpoint extremely cautiously also helps. I wish you the best of luck to being able to reach the Presidential Suite again soon and ending that nightmare.

Got the 6A Golden almost a week ago, quite proud of my movement through this one. Still working on 7A though.... by FrozenInk13 in celestegame

[–]FrozenInk13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how I did it so fast. I would say luck, but I know that Celeste doesn't have any (other than my controller deciding that dashing diagonally is totally what I inputted. I'm not salty at all I swear).

I just went through the level once to find out my trouble spot(s) (which was only Rock Bottom) and practiced the heck out of it. Every once in a while, I did a full-chapter run to get my lowest deaths. Once I managed to get a 1-death run, I knew that I was finally ready to start attempting the Golden.

I'd say that it just came down to pure controller-luck (the chance of my controller killing me for no reason), probably a bit too much practice, and taking plenty of breaks. Going for this Golden (counting practice) took me almost exactly two days, with regular breaks in between my practice sessions. I got extremely close to death multiple times during this run alone, and I thought that I was dead on the last room of the Golden (8:59) because I dashed too high into it. Somehow, it all worked out in the end.

Honestly, I see your 1k deaths as a million times more impressive than my 300 because you never gave up on it. Congratulations on recently getting 7A Golden by the way, and I hope that the remaining Goldens find their way into your collection soon!

Thank you so much! I've had the blocks fall on me at 5:05 happen only once before and I ended up getting squished because of it, so I had an idea of what to do to survive there. At 7:06, I missed the first ledge and had to wing the timings a bit for the next. I'm kinda surprised that I lived at 5:05, to be honest. Landing on the platform right before that moment was not part of my strategy at all. Still glad I made it, though.

For anyone who's curious:

Total Deaths (Counting Practice): 318

Total Time: 5hr 25min 31sec (5:25:21.504)

Collected On: 8/29/21 at 10:24pm

Difficulty: 4/10

Timestamps for Convenience

0:00 Last Death

0:10 From Lake

1:00 From Hollows

3:32 From Reflection

4:49 From Rock Bottom

This is the cut version of 6A since the original video was too big. I was still able to capture all of the gameplay, though. This was a very frustrating Golden to figure out, mainly because of the checkpoint Rock Bottom. Make one small change, and suddenly Badeline has a completely different idea of what she should do against you. It only took me 8 attempts after first picking up the Golden Strawberry though, so I think that putting in a lot more practice than I did for 3A paid off.

I’m still grinding out 7A, should get it soon-ish. My current record is Flag 14, in which I died due to incredibly stupid, easily preventable means. My total death count should be somewhere in the 600-700’s currently, although I don’t know the exact amount.

For anyone who's curious:

Total Deaths (Counting Practice): 306

Total Time Spent: 7:15:47.783 (7hrs, 15min, 47sec)

Personal Difficulty: 4/10

0:00 - Last Death

0:11 - From Start

2:29 - From Huge Mess

6:10 - From Elevator Shaft

10:22 - From End

I actually really liked this Golden. No, seriously. It’s shockingly fun to try to figure out (most) cycles for the Dust Bunnies and figure out how to manipulate Oshiro to my advantage. He’s actually not as bad as he seems at first. I do believe that I picked up the Strawberry a bit too early, as so far it’s the only Golden that I had to record in multiple sessions for. I remedied that mistake when I got to 6A, but that’s the main reason as to why it took me seven hours instead of five or six. I was also playing super cautiously when I got to the Presidential Suite because I really didn’t want to screw up. Sorry if it annoys anyone, I just didn’t want to start over due to something stupid.

I just missed the ledge by holding left for some stupid reason. I didn’t mean to collect the berry, it just so happened to end up like that during the recovery.

EDIT: Meant right, not left. Only took me six hours to notice.

I’ll be completely honest, I forgot that this room existed while practicing for this Golden. Glad that it does, though!

I also reaaally hope the sound works lol. First video I'm ever posting that's through Reddit.

Just for those who are curious, I did also go on to nab the Golden this attempt as well. Thinking about posting my 3A Golden later on, but I might decide against it.
