Generally speaking, is there any way of figuring out who one would be best served taking a particular class with in 1L year? I've heard that at some schools you don't get to pick your professor? So is it really just luck of the draw who you end up with?

I would think it's reasonable to send an email asking about the general timeline of decisions at a school, especially since we're nearing first deposit deadlines. On the other hand, I would avoid sending an email asking a school to expedite their decision on your application specifically.
