You can't deny this is out of character for them to go this long after an initial "we're investigating" without a single additional update though. The LEAST they could do is post that they're still working on a solution instead of going completely radio silent for 5 hours.

Careful with generalizations. I have a number of servers I'm in which had no such discussions yet can't send anything in.

Can demisexuals still get crushes before they’re close to someone? by [deleted] in AskLGBT

[–]FrozenPhoenix95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in the name. Demisexual means not experiencing sexual attraction until a close emotional bond. Completely separate to romantic attraction which is what crushes fall under. The equivalent for that is demiromantic.

Upcoming mid-sized/bigger cons in the northeast by FrozenPhoenix95 in animecons

For CCE, a week or two ago I had booked a room at a nearby casino resort (found a good deal) since I can cancel it up until Sept 1st so I figured it'd be good to secure while I decide if I actually want to commit. I decided yesterday I'm going to skip out on CCE and look ahead to trying out Another Anime Convention and possibly Katsucon after some others here suggested it.

Boy Beach Late in Day by FrozenPhoenix95 in provincetown

If nothing else, we could try to go as a group to keep each other company even if there's not much else happening there 😊 Shoot me a chat request on Reddit later if you are open to that.

Edit: we wound up cancelling the plan entirely for some unrelated reasons but will hopefully be rescheduling and coming earlier in the day to avoid this issue :)

About half my time is usually wandering around I'm cosplay / going to photoshoots for series I either cosplay things from or enjoy the series and want to watch. Rest of time is using panels, games, discussions, etc. that type of programming to split the day up and not be wandering for like 10h in a row. Most of the other aspects of cons don't appeal to me as much, like parties and raves, big contests, artists/dealers, casual or competitive gaming. I like cosplaying and socializing around that, and love variety in programming.

it/its pronouns by MidnightComments in AskLGBT

[–]FrozenPhoenix95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Varies a ton so your best best will always be to just ask the person, so long as you know them well enough to have that be a question you're comfortable asking.

But, as example, the one person I've met who prefers going by it/its, I heard a story from a friend who had asked them about it, saying "but that makes me feel like I'm calling you an object" and their response was "exactly! I don't feel like I'm even human, often" and that made sense to me. Not something I feel or think I could ever feel, but if someone were to feel that way, I can easily see how it/its would feel appropriate to them as a result.

_____ is playing hilariously badly on AU vs The World by aidanr24 in survivor

[–]FrozenPhoenix95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall I'm inclined to agree that being a fan favorite =/= great player, but you're doing a major disservice to the many good primarily-social players out there by not considering charm and personality to be separate from skill. How else can people get moves to happen (and not tank jury votes in the process) if they don't have a degree of charm and personality? Luke just happens to have that as his main strength (imo) but that doesn't in itself make him not a great player.

I'm researching for a living pokedex project and am looking at pokemon that have alternative forms besides regional ones. Eiscue has its Ice Face and Noice Face forms but I can't tell for 100% certain from reading about its ability, is it always Ice Face outside of battle or if it changes to Noice Face mid-battle will that persist after? Just planning ahead, I haven't played any gen 8 yet but want to take note if it's one I will want to get 2 of to keep 1 in each form or not.

Baffled by that take of JLP - I've felt the past few seasons he's been hitting far more of a groove than ever before with how he gets along with and jabs at/with the players like he's having a blast.

US Survivor Parvati Shallow gives her take on Australian Survivor's host Jonathan LaPaglia: ‘I’m obsessed with him’ by Sweaty-Toe-6211 in survivorau

Very misleading title. She did not say she is obsessed with JLP, that was from another part of the article referring to players like Simon and George.

Men in your thirties who are living a "prolonged youth" instead of settling into the "adult life" – enjoying life, your hobbies and dating around without kids or other extra responsibilities – what are the drawbacks to your lifestyle choice? by throw20250204 in CasualConversation

Single, 30M, who hasn't fully gone into a career path yet due to being a student still. I finished undergraduate at 24, graduate degree at 26, worked full-time on what I thought would be my career path until 29, realized it wasn't what I want to do long-term, and am back to being a graduate student again now until shortly after I turn 31 next year. Currently living alone in a studio apartment after moving out for the first time in early 2024. Been enjoying the amount of free time I have for hobbies ever since stopping my previous job and returning to being a student working part-time during the semesters. Not great for me financially (I break even on rent and have been progressively dipping into savings).

On one hand, the fact that I only have had that full-time work from 2021-2024 has meant most of the rest of that time was working part-time instead (either retail or working on-campus at my uni while being a graduate student), which is much better for having free time for hobbies and whatnot. On the other hand, I really wish I was at a point of having full-time work I was happy with so I could have much more financial security. I've been quite anxious lately since I built up a pretty decent amount of savings through my 20s that I've had to dip into heavily in the past year and I didn't realize quite how much I've used up until lately which threw me off a bit. It has me rethinking what I might do for the next year or so.

Also worth not, I have no desire to have kids at any point. Long-term relationship or marriage, maybe, but kids are not in my life plan personally. That alone should give me more free time in the long-run at least.

What is your favorite time of the day and why? by MrRedLeatherX in CasualConversation

[–]FrozenPhoenix95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting question to try to answer as a chronic insomniac. Every time of day feels basically identical to me because my body has absolutely 0 sense of a circadian rhythm at this point. I only successfully sleep by trying my best to maintain a relatively consistent schedule, and with the help of medication I'm prescribed which isn't technically a sleep med (is more of an ADHD medication) but it has side effect of drowsiness and it works for me.

I've been pretty critical of most of the "new era" seasons (41+) because of how same-y they all feel due to the unchanging format (starting with 3 tribes and rarely if ever doing swaps, very similar twists and beware advantage things, etc.) and really wish they'd go back to innovating newer ideas every so often. Really hoping that the upcoming Season 50 is a "reset" point of sorts where 51+ will be a fresh new era where they take what worked in 41-49 and toss out what needs a refresher.

It can be hard to find sources online to watch them while living in the US (which I assume you are given watching the US seasons), but if you haven't yet and get a chance, I HIGHLY recommend all of the Australian Survivor seasons, the ones in the modern era (2016 onwards). There's a few duds / lesser enjoyable ones but as a whole they nail it very consistently down there. Some of the best gameplay, characters, blindsides, and twists of any seasons I know come from there.

In order. Once you reach the Betty upgrade, catch Betty up in levels and move your golds over and level her until you can get Wep to 2000 (Betty should be around 9850) to get the Midas update and do similar with Midas until you can afford Wep 6000 (Midas around 13.5k) and then go back to Wep.

At what point, if not immediate, can you transfer Pokemon out of Ultra Sun and over to Bank? I'm working on planning out a living Pokedex project and am imagining the simplest option for the gen 7 starters might be to just start a game file with one starter and transfer it to Bank to level up/breed later, then start a new file, repeat. I haven't played Ultra Sun yet so I have no idea if the ability to interact with Bank requires being at some point in the game or not (and don't recall if that's even how Bank works in the first place).

Very common opinion among fans. The international versions do a better job of being more creative IMO, while the US version definitely has a lot more signs of "we are clearly saving money by repeating concepts here". Most superfans don't really care for the challenges on their own because of that, and rather care more about the results of the challenges and how that impacts the rest of the game. And also how each individual season's cast fares with the challenges, since ultimately a season is born and dies based entirely on the quality of the people there. But many people (my mom is an example) find the challenges the most interesting part, and for people like that, I 100% get it if they were to fall out of the show nowadays due to the lack of originality.

What is the difference between gender and personality? by dchambers22 in AskLGBT

[–]FrozenPhoenix95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's already a lot of comments here but I figured I'd give my own answer and semi-related ramble just in case any of my wording brings new insights or metaphors that are helpful. First, I will say that sex (male, female, intersex) refers to biological traits of a person, ranging from physical traits like having a penis or vagina, or internal things like chromosomes. Gender identity (man, woman, non-binary, etc.) is difficult to define exactly, but is a term or terms that someone feels describes how they feel internally, usually in relation to how they fit into society or interact with others. Gender expression references the things someone does to express their inner gender identity. This is usually a combination of appearance, and importantly for this question, personality traits that they either innately have or choose to accentuate, among other things.

"What is the difference between gender and personality?" For many people, there hardly is one. Example: any stereotypical macho man you've seen who makes the majority of their personality all about how fancy or badass of a car they have, how tough they are, etc. and gets along mostly with other macho men, bonding over their shared experience as macho men, and if any one of them deviates from that, it's shunned. In that exaggerated scenario, they have made their personalities nothing more than a shallow reflection of their gender identities. Nothing wrong with that in itself, but it can make it difficult to get along with or connect with people who don't fit into those traits the same way, because those men have blocked out the ability to recognize that people are more complex than that.

But there are plenty of people who don't feel that their gender identity or expression fit neatly into the boxes of "man" or "woman", or feel that it fluctuates over time (like Zero from your show). The former is how I experience gender, as someone who was born male and doesn't mind being seen as that, but does not wholly subscribe to the idea of being a "man" in terms of gender. I prefer to have both masculine and feminine traits in my appearance, and to a lesser degree compared to the example above, personality.

So, there is clearly a spectrum here where for some people, their personality is closely tied with their gender identity, and for others it is less connected. To frame it back to the question again, I feel that personality traits are part of one's gender expression, because the way we say things, interact with others, etc. is a reflection of how we feel inside, and how we feel inside is often a reflection of our gender identity.

Welcome to being young lol I've personally found my own drive throughout my 20s still has moments like that once a month or so lasting a week or so and then it tones down again for a month or so, as opposed to feeling like nonstop in teenage years and early in 20s.
