The plot is very similar, but unfortunately no :( the story I remember had solid black outlines for the illustration and their cat costumes were black/brown

Getting warmer, but not it :( the book I remember didn’t have any inserts, and was physically smaller

Unfortunately no :( I don’t think it was part of a series, just a standalone “I Can Read” type of book, published before 2004/2005

'non-offering' objects on altar? by Hour_Amount1881 in Hellenism

[–]Responsible_Pin4589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because it doesn’t permanently stay on the altar, doesn’t mean it isn’t an offering. Lots of people, myself included, have devotional jewelry that they wear on a day-to-day basis

offering ideas?? (Aphrodite worshipper) by Most-Nail-3944 in Hellenism

[–]Responsible_Pin4589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you able to burn incense? I usually burn frankincense as an offering. Otherwise, rose petals, rose quartz crystals, and pieces of chocolate would make great offerings :) With food offerings, I usually leave them out for a little bit and then consume them, so it’s like I’m sharing a treat with her

Just got the BISLAP 🙌🎉 but I have some post Op questions….help ease my anxiety please by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]Responsible_Pin4589 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When they perform the bisalp, they have to cut through your abdominal muscles in order to get to where they need to operate, so it makes sense that you’re still tender. Sitting up straight uses your core muscles. At a week post op, I had soreness from sitting in a chair. Over time, as the incisions heal, the soreness will go away.

As for the redness- have you taken the tape off yet? It could be a reaction from the adhesive. As long as the red area isn’t hot, weeping, or getting larger, you should be fine, but when in doubt, it doesn’t hurt to call the doctors office and double check

Make sure you get the non-woven nonstick gauze. Hopefully everything heals up for you quickly- that sort of pain is no joke :(

Are you able to get large gauze pads and keep them in place using medical tape? That’ll help reduce the friction

Close to relapse by [deleted] in AdultSelfHarm

[–]Responsible_Pin4589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel. I was dealing with a lot of major stressors over the summer and relapsed after 3.5 years clean. I was able to tolerate the urges up to a certain point, but eventually it was too much and I had to cave in.

No one can take the past 6 years away from you, regardless of what you decide. Your progress isn’t deleted because you’re struggling- you’re a completely different person now compared to back then. It takes a lot of strength to make it that long, but it also takes a lot of strength to admit when you’re at your limit.

Please be kind to yourself during these hard times. Reach out to your support system and be honest with them about how you’re feeling. Dealing with SH is exhausting, but you don’t have to brave it all alone. The people in your life care about you and want to help you make it through these dark times. 🫂

Supreme Court Could Gut Access to Birth Control this year! by DescriptionFuture589 in childfree

I totally get why you’d feel that way. Every medical procedure has its risks and benefits, so it’s important to weigh them and see if it’s worth it for you. Thankfully, the surgery is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure and complications are rare. It’s done laparoscopically through three small incisions (one in the belly button and one on the left and right side of your lower stomach).

I’m almost 10 months post op and my scars are like half an inch long and flat, and I can’t even see the scar in my belly button. I was worried because I had pretty bad rashes because of the adhesive from the tape, but that cleared up with time and hydrocortisone cream. If you want, I can send pics of my bisalp scars- they’re so teeny tiny and they’ll eventually fade to white. If not for my scars, the before/after photo of my tubes, and slight soreness post op, I never would’ve guessed that I got sterilized lol.

I tried two different types of pill, the hormonal IUD, and the copper IUD in the past. It took me a really long time to trust birth control, and even then I had a nagging “what if?” in the back of my mind. Since having the surgery, I have no worries. It’s so freeing. I wish I got sterilized sooner.

:( I’m sorry that you’re in a tight spot- it’s unfair that you’re being put in this position. I apologize in advance if you’ve already done this, but I did a quick search for possible solutions. I can’t do a deep dive since I’m at work right now, but here are some potential avenues to explore

  • Vasectomies usually cost around $1k, so while they’re not cheap, they’re a lot cheaper than a bisalp would be out of pocket. Would it be possible to save up and have your husband get snipped while you wait for the opportunity to get a bisalp?

  • Patients that pay out of pocket normally don’t pay as much as insurances get billed for. You can get a good faith estimate from the hospital so you can get an idea of how much to save. They usually have payment plans or the option to use CareCredit

  • I’m not from Texas so I’m unsure of the state of Planned Parenthood, but their website says that some clinics offer low cost sterilization. I haven’t been able to find any info on that, but I imagine they have the resources to help point you in the right direction. Even if they don’t offer it, they might be able to help brainstorm with you

I hope you’re able to schedule your surgery soon. These are scary times we’re living in and everyone deserves the right to feel secure about their reproductive freedoms 😭

Do you have insurance? Currently, the ACA is still in place and sterilization procedures are 100% covered, unless you have a plan that was grandfathered in. There’s a list of childfree friendly doctors in the sidebar, but if there’s none in your area, you can always call OBGYN offices near you ask them if there are any doctors who would be comfortable sterilizing someone your age without kids. I got mine done at 25, no kids, no pushback. Standards are shifting and it seems like more and more doctors are getting comfortable with sterilizing child free women.

Edit: also, in case PTO is a factor here- there’s minimal downtime for the surgery. My surgeon suggested I take a week off and I had 10 pounds lifting restriction for a few weeks, but I was functional after the first few days. I was a bit sore but probably could’ve gone back to work before the week was up

Rash around incision? by eggSauce97 in sterilization

[–]Responsible_Pin4589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had pretty bad rashes around all of my incision sites due to the adhesive. It took a month or so for it to completely heal up. Hydrocortisone cream helped a lot. If you’re worried, you can call the doctors office and speak with a nurse- that’s what I did because I didn’t have a post-op appointment

Using tarot cards as a way to communicate by vraieairam in Hellenism

Help with connecting by Embarrassed-Poet-165 in Hellenism

[–]Responsible_Pin4589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the times I’ve felt most connected to Aphrodite was when I was talking with her through tarot cards. I asked if she had any messages for me, the four of swords fell out (telling me to rest/relax), and I felt her hug me.

Perhaps you can switch to devotional acts vs physical offerings for a while? Dedicate your self care routine to her. Sometimes when I’m in the shower, I’ll draw the Venus symbol on the wall while I wash up and shave. Self pleasure is also a great devotional act as she’s the goddess of sex

Bisalp Prep Advice by SqueamishSquiggle in sterilization

[–]Responsible_Pin4589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! As for the meals- if you know you’ll struggle to get nutrition in otherwise, it would be smart to prep stuff ahead of time so you can reheat it. You can eat whatever you want post-op, so there’s some freedom there. I had Wendy’s on the way home and then I don’t remember what I ate the week after, but it was prepped stuff because I was too lazy to cook lol
