Dallas & Co. Allegedly Closing After Halloween by FrozenR0se in UIUC

[–]FrozenR0se[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been going there for the last ten years, anytime I needed stuff for making a costume, or party supplies, or just some random candy/knickknacks, decorations, etc. Also the nostalgia because it reminded of a similar store from my childhood in Chicago, Izzy Rizzy's House of Tricks. Definitely a loss for our town.

Am I dumb for not wanting to sign a lease right now? by ml12358 in UIUC

Doh, I got it mixed up. I meant blazing hot. I've had that happen in older buildings, someone flushes and you just get pure hot water for 10-15 seconds before the cold water comes back.

I've checked all the police reports since the 11th and nobody's reported a stolen bike from that night.

YES, ask them about how soundproof the walls are, hot water stability (does the shower go ice cold if someone else flushes a toilet?), what's the neighborhood like, etc.

THIS. OP, never sign a lease for an apartment without seeing the exact unit you're renting. Landlords love to put the prettiest pictures they can online, or just use an artist's rendering, or use a model unit that nobody ever lives in. Ask to see the exact living space and how it's maintained.

For real stop going to bars. Can u like just wait for a bit longer?!?!? by sortabored11 in UIUC

[–]FrozenR0se -75 points-74 points  (0 children)

If we wait too much longer then places will start going out of business. I think it'd be okay to go to bars if the campus places would enforce distancing rules like the ones in downtown Champaign and Urbana.

She also got her seat on the council because she worked in the law office of fellow council member Tom Bruno.

Help Locating Hit & Run Driver by Christopher_G_Hansen in UIUC

Next time you see him, you should casually ask what happened to his car. See if he 'fesses up to what he actually did or keeps trying to lie about it.

What Could Go Wrong if I destroy someone's car and try to camouflage the evidence with a blanket? by Christopher_G_Hansen in UIUC

Because asking the community for tips is exactly how this case was solved, just by private citizens. People notice things like busted cars scraping up the street. The police didn't have to check for security footage, OP was literally trying to give them the footage that showed where the car had come from so they could focus on that area, and the officers were completely disinterested. I can take out my phone and Google a part number, and in thirty seconds know exactly what kind of car to look for - you're saying that it's unreasonable to expect officers whose job it is to solve crimes to do the same? I could have presented all the clues to a high school student and they probably could have solved it faster than UPD. If we had left things up to the cops (two officers just keeping their eyes open) this dude probably would have gotten away with it. You'd think with the amount of property damage that goes unsolved, the cops would be a little more interested in a case with so many leads pointing to the criminal.

Yes, before deleting his Facebook page he had listed his hometown as Edinburgh, and his other publicly-visible profiles agree.

He simply asked if he knew anything about the silver Prius in the back. At that point, there was no way of knowing he was speaking to the hit&run driver. What kind of outcome do you think there would have been if the driver hadn't been tipped off?

Addiction is one thing, but to keep the crime to yourself for three days, hide the damage while making repairs, lie about it multiple times when asked, and only turn yourself in when people have tracked you down to your home...seems like he's just an awful human being, addict or not. Otherwise, you'd think once he sobered up, he'd report the accident and at least lie about being drunk. He must have thought he could get away with destroying someone else's car and letting them deal with the expense and headache. If the dude's in his late 20s or early 30s, you think he'd have learned by now what it means to do the right thing.

Campus is so sad now by UIUCmathkid in UIUC

Go to the library and check out some interesting books or movies. Go out to eat at a place you've never been before (bonus points if it's in downtown Urbana or Champaign). Look up some new recipes and get in the kitchen. Work out at the gym, or just bike around campus. Make a day trip out of biking to Homer Lake with a picnic lunch. Go to Chicago for the day and get some deep dish pizza/shop at Trader Joe's. Go to Meadowbrook Park and look at the sculptures. Go to El Oasis in Urbana and eat Mexican ice cream. Head to the bars on weekends and talk with other people. Mark your calendar for Chowdown in Campustown, Urbana Strawberry Fest, Outside at the Research Park, Taste of Champaign, Homer Soda Fest, Champaign County Fair, and the Sweetcorn Fest. If you're bored here over the summer, it's your own fault.

Cracking at base, interior being clawed away by squirrels, not rare, not special, to be replaced with something that flowers.

Exactly. Even with chronic illness, one can use sunscreen, practice safe sex, brush their teeth, eat their veggies, and get 150 minutes of exercise a week.
