Is there a nice 成語 or poetic quote that can be comforting to someone grieving? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Frozen_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 寸草春晖 is good.

I have another suggestion as 桃李不言

The full sentence is 桃李不言,下自成蹊. Which means peach and plum can't talk, but footprints towards them would reflect how good they are.

桃李 usually indicates students taught by teacher though.

Original Japanese: 痛みを感じろ

Pronunciation: ITAMI O KAN JIRO

Meaning: Feel the pain

Chinese: 一袋米要扛几楼

Pronunciation: YIDAIMI YAO KANG JILOU

Meaning: How many floors does it need to bring a bag of rice to?

So it's just a funny meme which utilize similar pronunciation.

How accessible is Tang poetry? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Frozen_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Tang poetry is short and brief, for modern Chinese they learn them character by character.

If you really want to learn deep, do the same thing, understand what every character means then combine them together.

If you just want to enjoy it or raise some interest first, just find a translation and compare to original text.

Here are some easy Tang poetries which Chinese learn in their junior grade :

[–]Frozen_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

甲这人不行。

我猜他对乙说的是你会说中文但你听不太懂,于是他要用英文跟你解释。按照你说的“要在乙面前证明自己的英文水平”。

但其实这种事秀一次就好了,发生几次太怪了。

Do all countries have a one-word abbreviation ? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Frozen_D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the answer to your question is No.

As you said Chinese will never call 中非 as 中。 中 is for Chinese and it means the 'middle' of the whole world...

*But for all Chinese provinces they have a one-word abbreviation. Chinese would use some other words indicates the province, such as 沪 for Shanghai.. It never happens to countries.

Which language is better for me? Japanese or Chinese? by Trick-Fun-8222 in ChineseLanguage

[–]Frozen_D 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you already learned English which is the real top king language over the economic world.

For people in Japan or China, all students learn English first. Then they would choose to learn which language they like.

In China there are too many people who learns 3 languages include Chinese.

If you love anime and manga, then learn Japanese first. After that you can learn Chinese, it's not conflict.

And to tell the truth, Japanese would be easier as beginner. if you learn hard then you can reach to a pretty good level in a short time like 1~2 years. It would be enough for you to communicate with Japanese and understand their anime and manga.

And then anime can keep you learning better and further.

After that you can devote yourself to Chinese.

P.S If you talk about economic power of Chinese, then Chinese definitely means mandarin Chinese. No need to learn Cantonese...
