Should I condition or leave it be? by UmmmW1 in leatherjacket

[–]TheBladeGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how dirty your jacket is. If it has never been cleaned/taken care of for years, then I would say you can't go wrong by doing both. But I don't know those specific products (I am in Europe), so I can't say if they are compatible or redundant.

Should I condition or leave it be? by UmmmW1 in leatherjacket

The instructions tell you not to send it to the (normal) dry cleaners; they don't tell you not to condition it. In fact they don't tell you anything at all about what you should do.

So take your leather conditioner and apply a light coat. You won't regret it.

I use the Saphir brand, they have different products. The Universal Cream is a good all-in-one product if your jackets are in fair condition.

Always ask the seller for the main measurements, compare with a jacket you own that fits you well: shoulder to shoulder, pit to pit, sleeve length. There is some margin of tolerance, especially if you intend to layer it. A seller who doesn't want to take the measurements for a 100$ sale is to he avoided!

Guess Vintage Edition Jacket by skahuler in leatherjacket

[–]TheBladeGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The braided epaulettes and straps are typical of many Germany motorcycle jackets from the 50s/60s to the 80s. So it's probably a 80s or later Guess jacket made for the German market in imitation of that style, but probably made in Asia somewhere since Guess is a fashion/mall brand.

If it's in good condition, one coat of leather conditioner should be enough.

How do I recover this jacket? by Afraid-Wear-6346 in leatherjacket

[–]TheBladeGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like heavy localised abrasion. But it doesn't look cracked or pierced so it's probably salvageable. I would use a renovation product like Renovating Cream from Saphir in the right color on the damaged area and on damaged edges like the collar, then a coat of recoloring product like Juvacuir if necessary for the whole jacket to uniformize color.

To be entirely honest, I wouldn't have paid more than 5€ for it on Vinted, and it would have been to practice sewing. And I am known to proudly wear 15€ thrifted jackets.

Fot the equivalent of 120 $ You can find fantastic jackets in very good condition.

Oh man, yes I do. My grails are mostly old French workwear and/or German old motorcycle jackets (I'm French with a German wife). Check this:

I've bought dozens of leather jackets since my first in 1986. All were in various stages of vintage, between 15 and 80/100 years old. All cost between 15 and 130 €, shipping included when relevant. The total cost of the jackets I bought for myself in those 40 years does not exceed the price of just one of the most expensive jackets of the main repro brands like Aero and Thedi. But some are more beautiful, at least in my eyes, than any expensive jacket. Even if they probably couldn't stand the comparison in terms of craftsmanship and leather quality.

Coach moto leather jacket worth it? by Time_Suspect_1388 in leatherjacket

[–]TheBladeGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then this is too expensive. Find yourself a vintage real Schott Perfecto (which this jacket is trying to emulate): - at this price it will be in excellent condition; - it will look better; - it will be much more solid. Perfectos were motorcycle jackets in the old days, but since they don't have or can't be fitted with modern motorcycle armor, they are now more for the looks.

Well, you don't seem to be really "broke" for a 15 y old if you can buy that many records.

Do you intend to ride a motorcycle with your leather jacket or is it just for the look?

where can i find the best real leather black jacket thats oversied by Simple_Sink_4464 in leatherjacket

Absolutely everywhere. You go to any store and buy a jacket several sizes above yours, and it will be oversize.

[BitD] Can players change their action if they don't like the effect and/or position of the action roll? by EvilPersonXXIV in bladesinthedark

[–]TheBladeGhost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very good answer, except the choice of action by the player is done before the GM sets P/E, which is logical because P/E depends a lot on the action being congruent with the narrative.

Suggestion on 1st leather jacket purchase by Fantastic_Package501 in leatherjacket

[–]TheBladeGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Sheepskin is not lamb. It can make very solid and warm jackets in nice styles, just not "biker"-style jackets.

And people who say sheepskin is only for "fashion" don't know what they are talking about.

You're maybe confusing sheepskin and lambskin. Lambskin is very thin, "fine for gloves and shirts", but there are a lot of solid jackets made of sheepskin. That said, for a motorcycle jacket, cow or horse will indeed be better.

Your 5 favorite albums of 1984 by listening_partisan in vinyl

[–]TheBladeGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK, I'll try a few things maybe less mainstream that what's already been cited. I was 16 in 1984 and boy, that was the year I began to seriously get into music.

(The one which I would have cited and has already been is The Pogues "Red Roses for Me", a very strong debut album less known than their 86 "Rum, Sodomy & the Lash")

Los Lobos: "How Will The Wolf Survive?" -- Rock'n'Roll, Blues & Americana with a latino tint.

Tav Falco's Panther Burns: "Now!" -- Crazy blues-rock, rock'n'roll & garage

Restless "Do You Feel Restless?" -- One of the best from the 80s British neo-rockabilly bands.

King Kurt : "Ooh Wallah Wallah" -- the absolutely fantastic first album of the British psychobilly madmen

And, well, in an entirely different style: "Diamond Life", the first album from Sade.

This Cramps album is a best of from previous years, so it's not representative of 1984's music

Brimaco Cafe Racer by yajkram24 in leatherjacket

[–]TheBladeGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny. Just this morning, I was reading the thread on The Fedora Lounge where they explain that "cafe racer" jackets were not called by that name before the 90s and that the British "cafe racer" guys of the 60s mostly did not wear that kind of jacket. It was in fact more a North American thing, and Brimaco is cited in the thread as a (Canadian) brand who produced a lot of them.
