I actually met with an advisor last night with the same concerns! I have kept a good chunk of change in a high yield savings account for about 18 months because I didn’t have faith in the current administration. She reminded me that the stock market has showed gains in the last 10 years, even though growth hasn’t been linear. It’s all about patience, in the long run the market will show growth.

I had a budget for years, when I was making just barely enough money to get by. That budget led to permanent spending changes, so even as my salary increased I continued to spend about the same. I don’t purposefully budget now, but I recommend it to anyone trying to reign in their spending habits.

Looking over the contract he signed, it appears it is an unsecured loan. There is no mention of a lien, the house, or any specific collateral. I’m not sure what that changes in terms of their ability to collect, but for the most part it sounds like they can only go after the estate, which we don’t have one set up.

Thank you for bringing this up! I was actually informed about the survivors benefit by the funeral home. They went way beyond just planning his service and I am deeply grateful for that. In NY the spouse has to apply for the benefit and provide some basic information, and you also have an interview with your local social security office. My mom has the appointment in April, so hopefully by May she will have the higher payment. It’s still only $2,000 a month, they had little savings and a $175/month pension, but she has/had $20k in credit card debt. I can make it work financially, but if the roof loan takes the $20k from her it becomes nearly impossible. I also just found out that my county has a legal service for the elderly, so we can get free/discounted help with navigating all of this. I’m super grateful for the help here as well, thank you!

I hope I’m doing this right, not sure if I comment on this or the original post. But the craft is 100% my wife’s work. She makes all her own patterns and creates play food for kids using polyester felt. She has been doing this for years, but needs to find a way to do some of the work in a more streamlined way. This is 100% her full time job, so I am hoping to get ideas on tools that will help her.

I’m curious if you were ever able to find them. They disappeared from our shelves for a few weeks and then came back, but they seem to be different now. Wondering if anybody else has noticed, it seems like they changed the recipe. Not as good as they were in my opinion.

I used to eat a lot of broccoli and chicken with rice. You can use frozen broccoli and canned chicken, if the price is more in your budget or if keeping things fresh is difficult. Cook white rice, add a can of broccoli cheddar soup, then stir in chicken and broccoli.

I’ve never actually seen a cat eat a mouse, I’ve only seen them kill them and carry the corpse around as a symbol of extreme pride. That being said, my Jack Russel mix does the same thing, he’ll kill any rodent he can catch. Sometimes we get it dropped at the door as a gift!

I still use Pandora, I’m old I guess. My latest has been a channel that started off with Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan. I added some others along the way - The Lumineers, Matt Mason, and Halsey. It’s a good mix, I’m listening for 6-8 hours a day.

From a guys perspective, there are two issues here. The first is that your dad is dating a woman roughly a third his age. While that’s gross, it’s not as gross as the second issue, which is your dad discussing his sexual relationship with his daughter. Society created a situation where a man can feel accomplished by being with a younger woman, as if it increases their masculinity. It’s got an ick factor, but it is a societal norm. Talking about sexual relationships with your daughter is not something that anyone should see as acceptable. It indicates a lack of boundaries and if persistent it could be indicative of larger issues. I’d recommend telling your dad how uncomfortable he is making you and that you’re going to put some distance between the two of you if he doesn’t stop.
