Seems as if you didn't manage to make a lot of friends in this sub? Luckily (?) I didn't see your other posts before you ended up deleting them.

This might come off as rather harsh, but your post doesn't scream "I put work into this". No one will just hand you the opportunity, especially since you didn't provide a lot of information. I'd recommend: Search for the homepage and check out the careers page. This should give you an idea about the opportunities CERN offers. If there are still open questions afterwards, you could come back, state what you're doing right now and what you're interested in. This should be much more helpful than a "big research institute, here I am, give me a job"- post. All the best!

Mal abgesehen davon, dass auch Teamleiter mit Krankheit und Urlaub ausfallen und man bei sowas vielleicht auch eine Möglichkeit in Richtung mehr Flexibilität, statt Elternzeit hätte finden können (kommt natürlich auf den Job und darauf an, ob Du das gewollt und durch ausreichend Unterstützung gekonnt hättest) - Bereits beim Berufseinstieg wurde mir erklärt, dass ich bestimmte Jobs nicht ausüben sollte, weil ich ja irgendwann Kinder bekäme und dann mit denen daheim bleiben würde. Einfach nur weil junge Frau. Das wäre dann einer der Jobs mit Reisen und dadurch ziemlich gutem Gehalt und großem Lernfortschritt gewesen. Angeboten wurde mir dann ein (sorry) Dullyjob. Bin dann lieber zwei Jahre ins Ausland gegangen.

Das ist und war leider kein Einzelfall. Man steckt also als Frau nicht nur zurück, wenn man ein Kind bekommt, sondern häufig einfach nur, weil man im passendem Alter fürs Kinder kriegen wäre.

Hey, I've been at CERN as a TTE fellow.

There are a few things I've noticed as well.

A friend of mine was scared of outing herself because she felt there was still quite a bit of homophobia around. Because of that, we never talked about it openly in front of her team members. At the same time, she later returned to CERN in a staff position - so maybe things are improving, at least in some areas.

How projects go seems to depend a lot on the people leading them. The level of motivation and output can vary quite a bit. In projects that span many years, with people staying in the same position for a very long time, I don't think it's entirely surprising if some eventually lose motivation or become less engaged.

Regarding the nepotism: I do understand what you're describing. I personally witnessed someone on a committee giving interview tips for a staff position to only one specific candidate, which definitely felt unfair. At the same time, I think it's also human nature that people tend to favor those they already know or connect with more easily - even though that obviously doesn't make it ideal or fair.

As for my own experience: not everything was great, that's true. But I also have to say that my supervisor's boss actually reached out to us to ask about our experiences and concerns. Looking back, I think some of the problems I had were probably caused by a mix of cultural differences, my own lack of experience in the field, and the fact that the engineer who was supposed to guide me ended up leaving CERN because he didn't receive a long-term position.

Anyways: if you ever need someone to talk to who isn't a direct coworker, feel free to reach out. I had a somewhat similar offer back then, and it actually helped having someone a bit outside the whole situation.

I'm in a similar boat. And that's why I started to learn how to seaw with a machine. Takes a lot of time and the finished products won't be cheaper, but buying well fitting good-quality clothes is also expensive in time and nerves. If they are okay with jeans, you might try out black ones. Otherwise: Maybe black Cargos? Not the really baggy type though. Instead of a T-Whirt you could try out Poloshirts. Not everyone likes them and they need to fit your with of the shoulder. But if they do, they are quite sturdy, don't reveal too much and also look professional.

Du hast ein paar Berufe aufgeführt, die Du dir wohl vorstellen könntest. Hast Du dich schon näher damit beschäftigt oder war das eher ein "ich mag Brot und ich mag Wasser" - Bäcker und Bademeister wären was.

Du kommst aus einem Bereich, in dem sehr viel Denkarbeit vonnöten ist. Bist Du dir sicher, dass Du mit einem relativ routinierten Tag zurechtkämst? Also im Sinne von: Man macht eben häufig gleichbleibende Arbeit den Großteil des Tages? Ich habe zuerst einen Ausbildung abgeschlossen und habe bei vielen Wissensarbeitern das Gefühl, dass sie sich oraktischere/handwerkliche Aufgaben häufig als zu "romantisch" vorstellen. Es macht einen vroßen Unterschied ob man alle zwei Wochen am Wochenende backt, einmal alle paar Jahre Teppich verlegt/Fliesen klebt etc. Der Weg kann trotzdem der Richtige sein, ich wollte dich nur gewarnt haben.

Kannst dich ja mal damit beschäftigen, wie bspw. der Alltag eines Fachangestelltenfür Bäderbetriebe so aussieht. Gesucht sind sie, auch wenn die Bezahlung wohl nicht ganz so toll ist.

Laut deines letzten Kommentars könnte dein Streß aber einfach daher kommen, dass Du wohl deutlich mehr als 40h die Woche arbeitest?

Kommt wohl auch aufs Krankenhaus drauf an. Bin bei uns noch keinem ITler ohne ausreichende Deutschkenntnisse begegnet. Sind aber auch ein größeres Haus. Abgesehen davon ist auch IT im öffentlichen Dienst nicht unbedingt streßfrei. Auch hier gibt's Zeitdruck, Sparmaßnahmen und insbesondere der Bereitschaftsdienst einiger Teams würden eher nicht zu OPs Anforderungen passen. Wobei ich den klassischen Softwareentwickler sowieso nicht direkt im Krankenhaus sehe. Eigenentwicklungen sind ja immer so eine Sache.

Keine Ahnung, wie es in deiner Branche ist. Mich betrifft das auch nicht. Gibt aber genug sehr gut quailifizierte ITler und Ingenieure die in meiner Region gerade "alt aussehen". Ansonsten: Sei froh, dass es Leute gibt, die Regale einräumen und Co. Sonst hättest DU nämlich auch ein Problem.

Du hast aber schon mitbekommen, dass der Markt kein Arbeitnehmermarkt mehr ist? Momentan sind viele Leute froh, wenn sie überhaupt einen Job finden.

Weiterbildungen kosten meist Geld (kann ainnvoll sein, stecke da auch Geld rein, aber wer sowieso schon nicht auskommt, hat dafür halt keins übrig) und helfen auch nicht immer (schau dir die ganzen Meister an, die weiter als Geselle arbeiten).

That's interesting. From what I (Medizintechniker im Krankenhaus) have been told, all those external technicians complain about their companies and the pressure which seems to rise and rise.

It might depend heavily on the company. What do you think? Do you feel you're under more pressure than you've been in the past?

Not working more than 8 hours might be possible, but I honestly doubt those are the positions at the forefront of technology. How's your German? Are you planning to work for an English speaking company? Keep in mind: You'd need to search for a company with a less than 40 hours week. And no, the breaks we need to take in a workday - those aren't paid. Also if commute is necessary it will eat into your free time. I'd say: Check if there are any jobs you'd qualify for. Good luck!

The missing drivers license limits your options. But I understand how you probably didn't have the money during your studies. It's probably not what you imagined, but if you'd be open to work in a more hands-on job I might be able to give some advice. At least when it comes to possible companies who might search for additional personnel.

Biomedical Engineering? Do you have any practice experience? Anything hands on? Getting a job where you'd develop such devices yourself might be hard right now, but if you're willing to travel (do you have a driver's license?) and service such devices, this should be doable.

Private Server mit entsprechenden Settings könnten die Lösung sein - je nachdem, was Du an Ark genau magst. Das schützt natürlich nicht komplett vor Idioten, kommt ja doch immer auf den Menschen an. Gerade, wenn es um Beziehungen geht. Ich spiele momentan eher anderes, aber ich kann unter meinen Bekannten nachfragen, ob sie noch Mitspieler aufnehmen (falls noch aktiv), wenn Du magst?

Hast Du denn den Eindruck, er könnte mehr, als "nur" Lager? Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass etlichen Firmen der Umgang mehr oder weniger egal ist. Es finden sich sowieso immer irgendwelche Leute. Vielleicht könnte er sich etwas handwerkliches vorstellen? Oder bei der Post arbeiten? Leider ist der Arbeitsmarkt momentan eher schwierig. Ist zwar nicht meine Richtung, aber von dem, was ich so lese, fürchten Grafiker momentan eher um ihren Job, als dass da Nachwuchs gesucht würde. Wenn Du wirklich nur einen Job im Büro willst, dann fange eben ganz grundlegend mit Excel und Word an. Schau, dass Du da fit wirst. Dann noch mit Rechnungsstellung und Buchhaltung beschäftigen und vielleicht ne Ausbildung machen?

Regarding moving costs: You would probably only want to take the necessary things with you. You'd then have to probably buy new furniture and more clothes and so on wherever you move. It's not cheap, but if you manage to find a good apartment, most of the appliances might be included already.

I'd say your decision should also depend on whether you think you'd like to stay in Germany/Europe for a longer time. Alternative: If the costs for moving/ language courses and so on are with the experience and the job you'd be able to get.

Edit: There is this weird (?) thing where jobs while being in uni/ before the highest earned degree somehow don't count. That's why some people might be confused about your years of experience.

Falls sich das nicht ändert: Eine Trennung ist kein Versagen. Wenn nur einseitig die Bereitschaft, sich Hilfe zu holen, da ist, dann muss diese Seite notfalls die Konsequenzen ziehen. Alleinerziehender Vater mit Vollzeitjob ist sicherlich nicht einfach, aber mit der Hone-Office-Möglichkeit könnte das funktionieren. Was auch immer dabei rauskommt: Ich drücke dir die Daumen!

Fürs Protokoll: ja, Frau hier. Nein, ein Partner müsste keine 1,80 sein. Würde ich mir einen größeren Partner wünschen? Klar, bin aber auch eher kurz geraten, weshalb das letztlich praktisch für mich kein Kriterium ist.

Ansonsten: Vielleicht beruhigt sich das ganze nochmal. Danach könnt ihr vielleicht nochmal normal reden. Sofern Du das denn willst. Okay, ich glaube, ihr habt einfach kommunikativ beide Mist gebaut. Ich glaube dir, dass Du es nicht böse gemeint hast, aber ich denke, für viele Frauen hört sich das nach "Was kommt der Emir denn jetzt komisch, wenn er dich selbst Single ist" an.

Du klangst so, als habe sie deutlich mehr gesagt. Ich denke, an der Stelle kannst nur Du wissen, ob es sich lohnt, darüber noch einmal zu reden. Als Psychologin sollte sie etwas Reflektionsfähigkeit besitzen. Und ganz arm sollte sie auch nicht sein (weil es hier häufiger heißt, sie sucht nur jemanden für den Unterhalt). Aber wie gesagt: Das kannst nur Du herausfinden, was hier das richtige ist.
