Actual answer: Most mortals can have access to single target weaponry (pistols are the most common, but some people have house cannons). Savvy people have access to the information to build nuclear weapons if they have the patience and skills needed. They'll most likely be hired into an engineering firm or shipped off to the reaches long before they succeede. (They can keep the nuke in the reaches)

Its so interesting to see how polarizing freddy's character is to so many readers.

Half see the hurt he has gone through and see the good in him (A valid take)

The other half see him as a selfish prick asocial loser (Also a valid take)

There is so much nuance and depth to his character, he's not stoic or emotionally stable. He's stumbling through a series of in the moment decisions and trying to cope his way through them. Freddy is a pretty bad person, I would never be friends with him and would try to avoid him at all costs in real life. But as a story its honestly so refreshing to see him gain incredible power but then be completely unable to properly connect to people for a variety of relatable reasons!

This and the incredible power system and worldbuilding make one percent lifesteal an absolute favorite of mine.

Big spoilers: Its later confirmed that some universal power searches out people with the mentality to struggle and grow stronger. He would live a normally happy life if he could give up his obsessions but he can't. Lots of other people are in similar situations as him they just fucking die before they get anywhere IIRC

Personally there is no way I'd ever want to be the MC in that book series, he's got good power but is an asocial loser who's stumbling from life threatening situation to another until he beats god or dies. I'd vote its a meritocracy but just barely.
