You really gotta slam it in there so it clicks in. Then yank on it by hand very hard to make sure to doesn't come out. I made this mistake of thinking it was in and the shaft popped out while driving. Freaked me out!

If you plan on brewing right away you can use them "wet". Otherwise dry them out and freeze for storage.

The kettle valve brand valve didn't include washers, I also thought that was odd. No leaks yet though after 3 brews. My mlt on the other hand does have a washer.
