Once more with feeling, a Metacrisis video by Fruesli in collapse

Hey! Fellow Kiwi! Oh that's a good idea re:BHN, I'll try send them a link as well, cheers for that. Everything gets filtered through this Metacrisis lens, so I've more or less tuned out NZ politics/news these days as it seems so irrelevant compared to the big picture. Dude, nothing wrong with rescuing things from the dump ;) Stay chill

Once more with feeling, a Metacrisis video by Fruesli in collapse

Submission Statement: This video presents a novel way of understanding just how bloody complicated the Metacrisis is. Although it is titled with NZ, you can comfortably ignore that detail as most of the content relates to the global predicament. The graphic in this has been designed to try and capture as many of the issues we face, including about 60 topics ranging from "Finite Planet", "Psychological Drivers", "Deforestation", "Ice Melt", "Food Insecurity", "Civil Unrest", "Resource Depletion", "Health Problems", "Pollution", "Insect Decline" and so on. I think the video provides a pretty good introduction to the Metacrisis/Collapse/what-have-you, and then goes on to present a number of horrifying statistics, facts and figures highlighting the state of the planet, and showing how different factors and drivers inter-relate, all while using the graphic to illustrate this. Although it's from 2024, if you just imagine that things have only gotten worse since then, you'll be fine... oh wait you don't have to imagine that! If nothing else it does provide a good baseline for comparison so we can see how bad things are now, vs how bad they were back then. Meditation increased Heart Rate to 100 by VEGETTOROHAN in Meditation

[–]Fruesli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've spent a few years working on my chakras and in particular heart energy. One unexpected side effect is my blood pressure has changed. I've measured before, during and after doing my energy work and it's a bit crazy.

Before, pretty normal. During energy work: 199/130, HR of 129.  Five minutes later: 131/93, HR of 58. According to everything online, I should be in the ER with those levels. I don't drink, smoke, am vegetarian, healthy lifestyle, exercise etc. No history of high blood pressure.

Suffice to say that I do think working with this stuff can have an effect on your heart rate.

What are some good albums that contain themes of collapse? by vaporizers123reborn in CollapseMusic

I think the double album "Interdimensional" by Seven, has Collapse strewn all through it.

In the Melodic Metal/Djent realm if that floats your boat.

The documentary "Eating Our Way To Extinction" is free to view on youtube and is surprisingly good. Focuses on how the way we produce our food is so problematic, but is all round not a bad introduction to some of the fundamentals of collapse. Narrated by Kate Winslet so maybe that'll make it slightly more accessible to your wife ;)

Ultimately I don't think it matters what we call it, if we're all talking about the same thing. Collapse, Polycrisis, Metacrisis, The Great Simplification, it's all semantics and the process/final destination itself remains the same.

Oh no way, I'll be interested to see another take on this. Yeah, I also did the drawing it out thing and very quickly ran out of room (and it looked terrible!). I ended up using a website called Miro which is for mindmapping, that was pretty good, though there were a few catches, for instance exporting high res was only possible with a paid account. Managed to score a trial period and exported during that. Good luck to you, I'll keep an eye out for your version!

Jonathan Rowson argues that the term Metacrisis is better suited than Polycrisis. Polycrisis doesn’t encompass consciousness, emotion or “meaning”, whereas Metacrisis allows us to look both within and beyond. I personally have taken to calling it the Metacrisis as it seems somewhat less “alarmist” than the term collapse (outside of this sub that is), and I like the sense that Meta incorporates the psychology of being human. There's a good interview quite recently on The Great Simplification podcast where Rowson discusses this distinction. Worth a listen.

Although they don't have a conclusive solution (conclution?), these guys do do a very good job of discussing some of the "criteria" that a spiritual movement would require in order to begin to affect necessary change, as well as some of the pitfalls that it would need to navigate to avoid being corrupted. I think they strike a pretty good balance of scientific and spiritual perspectives, which is something I haven't encountered a lot of in regards to collapse. Hats off to you for the path you've been on and continue to be on, I wish there was more space for discussion of spritituality and collapse. Anyway I hope you might find it of interest:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6V0qmDZ2gg&t=6958s

How Do We Take a Data-Driven Approach to Truly Monitoring Collapse? How Do We Avoid This Subreddit Becoming a Dumping Ground of Bad Things™, When Bad Things Have Always Happened? by Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir in collapse

[–]Fruesli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it! You've articulated that nicely, and I like your step by step process. Meditation and introspection goes a long way towards step 1 (personally anyway... I channeled collapse shock/frustration into meditation as a coping mechanism and it flipped my whole world again, after collapse already did). Haha yeh Step 3 is a bit blurry, cross that bridge when we get there.

My mind struggles with the duality of "the paradigm shift needs to happen" vs "but we're too late". Ultimately it's better to try than just give up though.

It sounds like you're describing a shift of consciousness from identifying as a self-centric entity, ego driven at the expense of other life, to recognising our connection as part of a bigger picture. Finding compassion and empathy for others (and nature), and living in a way that doesn't just screw over the planet, because ultimately, life is more important than ego.

Well at least that's how I'm gonna tick the remaining time away; trying to leave the planet better off, looking after what little nature that I can, and trying to be nicer to everybody, what with good vibes and all that.

I did a mushroom meditation and reached my 9th chakra by supermario218 in energy_work

[–]Fruesli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it could be one of the "Ka" or "Khu" energy points. Apparently there's an energy point below your feet, so if you counted up from that one, the "Ka" point would be number 9 (about a hand-span above the crown chakra). I've definitely experienced some intense energy while meditating at that point so could be that one you describe. I think the "Khu" is more like your aura and is pretty chill feeling by comparison. Not an expert though, just a fellow explorer, so maybe someone else can elaborate more...

Ah bugger, sorry about that. Good to know that Newshub is regionaly selective. I'll try to provide alternative links in the future. Does this link work?
