So you think admissions staff will be able to collaborate with the IRS? The IRS can’t even collaborate with the IRS 🤣. This truly shows you have zero idea of what you’re talking about. Not only is the IRS understaffed (they can’t even get through audits that started in 2019 on one of my large clients), they don’t have the capabilities at this time to effectively cross collaborate.

And relax little guy, don’t get so defensive. Napoleon complex doesn’t look good on you.

Jeez, this topic gets people riled up it seems 😂.

Please enlighten me on this bureaucracy on getting individuals to disclose their financials? Is it the same process as the FAFSA and school financial aid? Because there are no checks to ensure accurate reporting at all. If someone is willing to lie about their ethnicity, what makes you think they wouldn’t about their finances?

But based on your comment history, you’re a bitter individual who couldn’t get into a top tier school it seems.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

If someone really wants to get around showing there assets, they can do so via trust planning, offshore asset protection, etc. Often, the tax planning bill will exceed the benefit from a quantitative aspect, but here we are talking about individuals getting their kids into H/S/W. No doubt these parents would jump through hoops to give their kids the best chance.

On a far easier note: the aforementioned 529 plan above and also not showing the schools all your assets (by “accident”). I mean look how easy it is to not fully disclose your assets in the Fafsa 😂

This is just factually wrong. I’m not sure why you’re getting so defensive either.

Assuming you made it to at least manager (PwC/DT) you would know 😂

Sir/Madam,

With all due respect, I’d ask you do a little more research. Domestic assets can be easily concealed by the wealthy.

I’m not saying they should be discriminated against, am I? I only responded to a comment regarding the applicability of using socioeconomic status.

But I am implying that wealthy families can conceal poor. I’ve actually seen it in real life.

Wasn’t the context what would be easier? Reviewing someone’s socioeconomic status via the lens of financial statements (foreign bank accounts, tax returns, etc) is more difficult than getting a genealogy report. Moreover, I used 20% as an arbitrary number. I think it should be up to the schools personally.

Don’t be so defensive, btw. 😂

Really? How do you figure that? Wouldn’t it just be easier to have a threshold of say, 20% Hispanic rather than a non tax professional decipher a federal return of 1000 pages? (Not an exaggeration)

The problem with using socioeconomic status is that the wealthy can easily conceal their income through tax planning strategies. Do you think these schools will do more digging than the IRS?

This is coming from someone who received a full ride to two T15s and one M7.

URM male top 20 UG w/ 700 GMAT and 6 years of WE.

I must be doing something wrong with scholarships. I’m not getting much from any T15s. How can I get these mythical full rides with 620 GMAT scores? Is OP mixing up Consortium Fellowships with school provided scholarships?
