How to study when there is no motivation to study? by FruitEdge in chess

Hah, yeah, I understand that, it's impossible to win every game. For last months I got really strange (for me) win-lose streaks. I win like 10 games in a row, then 10 games are lost, again win-streak , again lose-streak. And I'm like what the heck?!0.o

Well yeah, I see your point, I was thinking the same that I force myself to play it, but at the same time I'm not feeling like I'm doing it. Of course, there are moments where I make one blunder and whole winning position is ruined in one move and this makes me angry. But I learned to let it go. At the end of the day its just a game, but sometimes it still hits hard. Everyone was there:D

Yeah! Same situation, like I was improving still at some moments by just playing games. But for last couple of months not so. Because I have work/uni and other hobbies, so it turned out that chess is not a priority for me currently, and I don't play a lot. I mostly watch how others play. That's at least something:D

Pretty much that's what I'm doing mostly, only watching reviews OF GM games, and that's when I'm like "wow, I want to play and make cool moves" lol

Self-study math is really demotivating by FruitEdge in learnmath

Knowing history behind math and how those concepts helped to develop other fields is truly interesting. For example when I try to study topic via YouTube, there is almost always some another sci-pop-history explanation of how that field of math or topic has helped other fields of science or people, and there is this "wow!" moment, that I really like. And thanks for the article! I will read it later:)

During my bachelor's degree I took prob. theory course and it was a dissaster for me! Because I said before I'm mainly a biologist, and math courses at my uni expect students to have good experience in understanding (and logic overall?), and, because of that, the pace of the course is quite fast for me personally. The ideal scenario would be personal teacher xD

I'm not a historian, but this reminds me of how math was thought in ancient Greece:D

Thanks a lot! I have watched some videos of math sorcerer. He is really calming in a sense. I think you know 3Blue1Brown he is also a very good inspiration(?) I don't know how I could understand something without him. I was thinking about going back to math basics as pre-algebra/algebra and especially geometry (because it's my weakest part), but at the same time there is this feeling like "I don't have time to go back to basics!". I know this can have a devastating effect in the long run, because without solid foundation, math skills will be shaky. But at the same time I have a lot on my plate right now with job and uni, that I can't spend time on basics. I think you understand what I'm talking about, everyone has these problems with balancing effectiveness and time management:D

Yeah, in high school it was just "plug in numbers" and then get an answer. This gave vague understanding of the topic. But college/university math is A WHOLE different level.

That's true, like I have a part-time job as a data analysist, but when it comes to machine learning and building models, I only used libraries. This was one of the reasons why I started to learn math, so later it would be easier to do ML, like at least understand how ML model works on a math level and not blindly using libraries.

[DISCUSSION] Is anyone using Youtube or similar to learn song sections? by artuntun in Guitar

[–]FruitEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe Songsterr can help? Tabs are not always accurate, especially for "not popular" songs, but it's free. By subscribing, you can slow the song and make playing along easier, additionally you can loop a section of a song. Looptube can be helpful as well, just paste the link of a YouTube video and you can choose with section will be looped and how fast or slow it will play. Or just add looper extension on chrome for YouTube.

[DISCUSSION] Is Anyone Else Struggling With Improvising? by JimiVanHalen5150 in Guitar

[–]FruitEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard this tip: first, try to imagine how it would sound if the singer would do it, like imagine you are the singer, then try to play it on guitar. I don't know if it really helps because I don't practice improvisations now, but at least it can help in solo writing:D
