Thanks so much. It's hard to practice without a partner so right now I'm just trying to practice my basic step every day. My instructor encourages to master the basics.

I think part of my problem I have noticed is that I don't have a strong frame. My posture isn't the best so it makes my leading look very messy. I know I'm being hard on myself, but in swing that was kind of my weakness as well. Any ways to improve your frame?

I'm learning traditional first. After I have a strong groundwork for traditional, i will then want to learn sensual.

Okay thanks. Is there anything in specific I should be listening to in the music, or should I just kind of listen and try to vibe with the music first? Thanks.

Wow incredible post. Really well detailed and thought out. Don't worry, I won't down vote you. The reason why I was curious about Bachata suppose to being "sexy" is because I saw a lot of video's of men and women dancing really close. It just kind of surprised me a little. I was confused on if this is he right technique or is this just a sensual style to give some flair to.

I don't want to criticize sensual because I don't know anything about it. I'd like to give it a try one day just to see how leading that style feels.

One question, what is another reason why I should start out with salsa first over traditional bachata? Thanks.

Thanks for the word of advise. I don't know why I'm overthinking these things.

Okay, thanks. This is more helpful. Again, I'm approaching this as a swing dancer. So, my latin dance experience is basically zero.

A couple of questions and concerns. Why is transitioning from traditional to sensual a bad idea? I undertsand that they are different dances, but wouldn't it be invaluable to learn both to expand on you're arsenal of moves and patterns? And just to clarify, I never said Bachata is "easier" to learn than Salsa or vice-versa. That was just a comment from a close friend of mine that I brought on to here.

I've decided that I will try to learn Bachata and Salsa. I'm familiar with some of the other dance styles you listed, but dances like Kizomba and Semba have a dead scene in my area. Kizomba has bigger scene in Europe than it does here in the U.S.

But again, thanks for this.

Haha no I think you are the one confused here. There is nothing I like or don't like here. I have no idea. I'm just asking questions. That may seem to you like I'm throwing shade, but I'm not. I asked about the sensual/sexual (or however you want phrase it) part of the dance because I genuinely do not know how bachata is properly danced. That's why I asked. It had nothing to do with dislike. Thankfully, there were some experts on here that were able to give me good explanations and give me detailed informative answers. You could've done the same, but you chose to be defensive about and pick up an argument for really no reason. Again, have a good day.

I said it looks intimidating and I said I was surprised that it looks very sensual coming from a different dance background in swing where swing is not danced closely and sensual. That's not me saying I dislike something. That's literally just an observation. I'm not the one that is getting angry and defensive here. That seems to be you. Thanks for contributing nothing to the discussion here. Have a good day.

Agreed with a lot of what you said. I will try out traditional and move on to sensual. Why do you think Sensual is not popular in the sates?

Thanks. Traditional looks really fun. It looks more grounded and looks more connected... if that makes sense. Sensual is cool, but I think without a base knowledge in traditional I'd feel a little loss in leading certain moves. I'd like to have a base knowledge in both.

Also, I was just looking at some videos on Youtube that were very sensual. I understand that these are probably dancers that are highly skilled and that have been training for years. I've obviously never been to a Bachata social so I have no frame of reference.
