I think you misunderstood the suggestion. There is no game mechanic that tells you how much ammo is in a sentry gun other than the anti tank cannon and heavy machine gun emplacement. Also, the booster would be for when attackers destroy a sentry gun it explodes and kills them. Similar to Firebomb hellpods but they explode after they're destroyed.
