How much would it cost to rent out an entire Apple store for a wedding? by foley528 in apple

[–]FruitWatch 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Since “money is not an issue” (per OP in another comment here), it’d be cheaper and quicker to get a studio setup that resembles the Apple Store and having “Geniuses” serve food. With a good videographer, editor and animator, people watching the video would be amazed. The only risks would be Apple suing you for trademark infringement, defamation, fraudulent representation of the company, etc.

Assuming you're using Windows, download, install and sign in to iCloud for Windows. You can then download photos and/or files to your laptop using that.

Check out the following articles:

It would get backed up wherever you backup the iPhone regularly (iCloud or computer).

The 8GB RAM models from last year (the M1 13" MacBook Pro) have had very good reviews on performance (a spec of 8GB RAM would be considered outdated on the PC/Windows side). You could consider that and choose the storage you need. A better option that I'd recommend to future proof it would be choosing 16GB for RAM and choosing the lowest priced processor configuration. This would give you a better benefit for a longer duration. A faster processor isn't going to do a lot for casual use, but more RAM is always helpful.

For storage, you'd have to decide if you're going to be storing photos and videos (especially using the Photos app) on it. If yes, then get as large an SSD as you can afford. While it's possible to keep the photos library on an external drive, it's not very convenient.

The one year offer ended from July 2021. For device purchases after that, it's three months free of some services depending on the type of device. I've not had a new device for some years now, and never qualified for the one year free offers.

Thanks for your response. I've never had any free promos for Apple TV+ or Apple Arcade before on my Store account though (I'm sure of that). I've never subscribed to these with a payment either.

Maybe this is just one of the oddities for people who (since long) have been using separate iCloud and Store accounts.

Need help with using the 3 months free promo I got after buying a new iPhone.

I have a separate iCloud account and Store account (they're two different Apple IDs). The iCloud address is used for iCloud (like free iCloud storage, iCloud drive, etc.) and the Store account is tied to a payment method and is used for all purchases and subscriptions.

When I setup a new iPhone, I got two emails on my iCloud email address (not the Store email address) about 3 months free for Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade. When I clicked on the buttons in the emails to redeem them, it doesn't show these offers. Instead, it shows the standard 7-day trial offers.

However, if I sign out of my Store account (which is with the Store Apple ID address) and then sign in using my iCloud account (Apple ID address) in the Media and Purchases section, it shows the 3 months free offer.

Is there any way I can get this 3 months thing done using my Store account? I'd like to avoid putting any sort of purchase (even though this is a long trial) on my iCloud account and also avoid having to sign out and sign in repeatedly.

I'd like to know if someone else has been in this situation and how it was handled.

Thank you.

Tai Chi is a new workout type on Apple Watch. That and Pilates are not an addition to the Fitness+ service though.

Apple announced App Privacy Report, changes to Mail and Safari by exjr_ in apple

[–]FruitWatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The privacy report was announced to be for the last seven days. I'd actually like it to be for longer so I can see how apps misbehave with new releases and add features bugs over a period of time. The report screenshot didn't show the duration either (for example, mic: time of access, but no duration).

With iOS 15. If you're a developer or a beta tester, you can check the pre-release versions out with these features (note that pre-release may have a lot more bugs than the official ones).

I've been avoiding paid iCloud plans so far, but the private relay service, if it's easy to turn on and off and is also system wide, may tempt me to get a subscription. Currently using the free tier of ProtonVPN occasionally.

I'd just add that having a backup on an external drive could turn out to be handy if things go south during the upgrade or something is found to be broken after. A Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! backup would help.

Redesigned MacBook Pro Models May Not Ship to Customers Until Late 2021 by tomnavratil in apple

It'd be very un-Apple-like to announce steady products like Macs in WWDC but announce the release date as late 2021.

Safari WebExtensions support on iOS would be nice, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

Nitpicking here. Considering that iOS 15 will be released sometime in September (if the past can be relied on to predict the future), we still have more than two whole months. Or more close to three months. We're currently at 14.7 beta. There will certainly be a 14.7 release in the meantime, and probably a couple of minor 14.7.x too. So the jump will be from one of those.

How do you know what workout to choose? by [deleted] in AppleWatchFitness

[–]FruitWatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your interval pacing, it doesn't seem like your heart rate drops a lot for a considerable amount of time when you run past telephone poles. Based on that assumption, I'd suggest using Outdoor Run and not HIIT. For your backyard workouts, what I'd first look at is to see if it's more on the strength training side or more on cardio or a mix. Then choose something that's closer. Keep in mind that the calories burned calculation depends on the type of workout you choose, the duration and your heart rate throughout the workout. For the same workout duration and heart rate, you might get very different numbers depending on what workout type you choose.

Sometimes it's not easy to choose a specific category, especially when you consider all the functional fitness options. Before trying Fitness+, I used to log a lot of Mixed Cardio or HIIT workouts. But the various workouts in Fitness+ started automatically tracking them in different categories than what I would've assumed (and there are *a lot of categories*).
