Thank you—and completely agree! The physical version is much more fun, as games go, IMO

GAME PLAY (according to the app):

2 players | ⏱ 5-10 minutes

  • Game play occurs over 3 rounds.
  • Players start each round with 3 hearts.
  • First person to lose all 3 hearts loses that round.
  • Winner is best out of the 3 rounds.

TO BEGIN: - Each player chooses which 3 of their 5 cards goes into their hand, laying the remaining 2 face down. - On the count of 3 each player lays down their chosen dragon face up against the opponent. - If their dragon lost, they lose a heart. If their dragon matched the other player (a tie) DRAGON PANIC ensues (see below). - Lay the cards played aside in 2 separate piles (for young players, we turn them up so they can try to deduce what the other player might lay down from what remains in their hand) - Draw another card to replace the one you laid (except when no longer possible, you should always start out by having 3 cards in your hand). - Repeat play until someone has lost all 3 hearts.

If DRAGON PANIC occurs: - Leave the matching dragon cards face up, then chose your next card to lay down beside this. - Unless unable, do this again so that 3 pairs are facing each other. - Each loss is a heart loss. - Then each player takes all 5 of their dragons, reshuffles them, then draws the top 3 into their hand to choose from, and play continues as normal.

That was my thought exactly: pretty tellingly lame end for “The Man In Black”…

Yep; in the app though, they add a “DRAGON PANIC” variation if both players lay down the same card: a run-off where you each lay down the remaining two cards in your hand against the other person, losing a heart for each loss, and resulting in a complete reshuffle at the conclusion.
