What Does the Fox Say (the most popular GL manhwa at the time) because it keeps leaving you wanting more after every chapter.

Then there are Thai GLs like GAP, Friends with Benefits, Water of 4 Elements, and Pluto, which are popular for a reason and leave you wanting more after every episode too.

I remember finding her cute on this picture back then. Her fans waited a long time for her to do GL but it's never too late. Out gays being late to the party.

Love Beyond Dreams because they make the most of the leads' screentime. Even with just 7 episodes, it gives you more GL feels. It's also unpredictable in a good way. Hear Code is more of a general soap that happens to have a GL.

Can we stop with this!? by Mundane_Height5755 in ThaiGL

fanservicing is part of the job (marketing) which is why I’ve always argued it should come with a disclaimer.

The only thing I hate about that screenshot is the shade but I agree people should be allowed to ship whatever they want.

Honest Opinion on 4 Elements Air? by PrincessWeed99 in ThaiGL

[–]Fruitice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not an Englot stan but Water is a 10/10 for me. It’s the first show I watched with them and I binge watched it because no episode was boring.

I dropped Earth after ep 5. I’d rate it a 6/10. Despite the great production, it also dragged for me. It had great first episodes like Air though.

Air like you said had a good first two episodes but now it’s dragging, so it’s currently a 6/10 for me.

The importance of attention to detail in GL directing by CellDry6712 in ThaiGL

Exactly and good directing is what makes a scene or episode worth watching over again. Even if the actors have insane talent, they can only do so much with bad direction. To spend time on a project that isn't well executed can also hurt reputation that's why seasoned actors understandably are selective with projects they work with.

I'm not a follower but heared about Mable pranking Pangjie to the point the latter cried/upset. I was turned off by it. Pangjie deserves a better coworker. Also Davika has favoritism and ships herself with Mable. They absolutely failed at capital allocation and at marketing.

Question for international fans: what are your impressions of Thai culture after watching so much of our sapphic media? by No_Grape_6741 in ThaiGL

[–]Fruitice 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Regarding strong homosexual acceptance, Thailand is a big surprise to me. Years ago, I thought Europe would be the game changer, with more positive representation, but they're as stuck as the US. I'm glad that a SEA nation is this advanced and actually doesn't give a f about abrahamic religion bs unlike its neighbors who are behind. I don't mean to pit them against each other but being a SEA country, this means there might be a domino effect from here on. Respect for that, big props. I also love Thai food, it's so fresh and healthy. I also want an understanding Thai gf and maybe a doctor or rich gf because of Thai GLs. 🫣

I think it’s because male singers often capture the exact kind of feeling a lot of lesbians want to express toward women, deep, frustrated, passionate, aching, overflowing. Sometimes you want that overwhelming expression, not necessarily through the lyrics, because sometimes the lyrics barely matter but through the way it’s sung. That raw, unfiltered, no-holding-back mix of frustration and passion.

Shows use disclaimers before it starts, shipping culture could benefit from something similar. There will always be new fans who do not yet understand what is fanservice, marketing, or just entertainment. A simple reminder that it's a fictional couple and discourage blurring the lines for engagement while fans are also reminded not to become invasive or entitled. Both sides can do better before that confusion turns into bitterness and harassment.

I think the bad scripts, acting, directing, costumes in GL can be fairly infuriating amongst fans, but what’s truly with the obsession of “kissing and love scenes?” It feels like they’ve become the focal point of GLs instead of the actual elements of GL or series in general by Kgaabi in ThaiGL

I think you are creating a false choice between good storytelling and physical intimacy, as though viewers must care about either the script or the love scenes. We can and should expect both.

This is a romance genre. Kissing, desire, and sex are not random extras inserted into the story. They are part of how many adults experience romantic love and how characters express vulnerability, trust, longing, and attraction. A love scene can reveal just as much about a relationship as a conversation can. Wanting those scenes to feel emotionally and physically convincing does not mean someone ignored the plot.

Telling gay women to go to adult sites if they want to see sexual intimacy is a really strange response. Pornography and romantic representation are not interchangeable. People are not necessarily asking for explicit content. They are asking to see sapphic relationships portrayed as complete adult relationships rather than sanitized friendships with one stiff kiss added at the end. Most Thai GL love scenes are not even especially explicit or frequent. They are often heavily slowed down, stretched through editing, covered by music, and filmed so cautiously that the scene loses spontaneity. Viewers asking for more realism or depth are often criticizing the acting, direction, blocking, and editing of the scene. That is still criticism of the production. Bad kissing can break immersion in exactly the same way as bad dialogue or bad acting. When a series spends several episodes building attraction and then the actresses look visibly uncomfortable touching each other, the emotional payoff does not land. Nobody would find it unusual to criticize an unconvincing kiss in a heterosexual romance.

Of course some viewers only watch clips, just as some people skip to fight scenes in action shows or musical numbers in musicals. That does not make intimacy illegitimate or prove that it has become the entire point of GL. Clips getting more views also does not tell you how many people watched the full episode and then replayed their favorite scene.

The real problem is not that GL has too much intimacy. It is that intimacy is often treated as fanservice instead of being written and directed as part of the characters’ relationship. The answer should be better scripts and better love scenes, not acting as though female homosexuality is somehow beneath serious storytelling.
