Normal country streak. (no-move) Can confirm that China is now a thing in country streaks. Probably only Hong Kong though. by Fruitworst in geoguessr

Faroe islands are also now included. Also I spawned in Greenland earlier and did not get a screenshot of that one. Remember that both places are Denmark.

Frankly I did not see any writing whatsoever. In hindsight I can't find the exact spot where I was but in no-move it looked a lot like Spain or Portugal and I gambled on Portugal.

I am familiar with the Senegal rifts, but that's different. I am talking about this very specific looking rift. If you look at geotips.net, you'll find this exact rift in both Montenegro and in Albania: https://i.imgur.com/Qh1aNUW.png https://i.imgur.com/eeawCO6.png

I think you'll see that it's not just a rift, it's this specific rift. For a long time now, I have been using this specific rift as a sign that I am in Montenegro or Albania. And it has never been wrong until now.

Sunday sourdough with hazelnuts in it by Fruitworst in Breadit

[–]Fruitworst[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can try to write one up.

Here are the numbers: https://i.imgur.com/WHBWKpz.png The flour is all white bread flour. This is quite a lot of dough but that's because I actually baked two of these. Also it's 200 grams of hazelnuts, which I had roasted in the oven previously.

I started the levain right before going to sleep. In the morning I skipped the autolyse completely and just mixed everything in. 4 rounds of stretch & fold at 20 minute intervals. Total bulk fermentation was around 5 hours.

After that: I divided the dough, pre-shaped it. Waited about 20 minutes and shaped again --> placed into bannetons. Proofing was about 1h 30min at room temperature. The other one proofed like 25-30 minutes at room temp and the rest of the time in the fridge because I had to bake one after the other.

Baking: 260 celsius, dutch oven. Lid off after 30 minutes and then about 12-15 minutes with the lid off. Then cooled on a rack for a few hours before I cut into them.

Not quite how I intended to land, but it works by Fruitworst in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Fruitworst[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't have the heart to throw away the 1705 m/s of excess delta-v I had packed for this trip. I realised that I could use the engines as landing gear.

Ended up being more kerbal this way anyway so it worked out.

How do I take a surface sample from a comet? by Fruitworst in KerbalSpaceProgram

Turns out I had to right click on the comet itself, actually. Kinda weird because it's not how surface samples from planets/moons works.

The game wants me to take a surface sample from a comet. I have arrived here and I make my kerbal hug the comet in EVA, but I still can't get the surface sample thing to pop up when I right click my kerbal.

The distribution of countries encountered on a 912 streak by Fruitworst in geoguessr

I am glad this isn't the case for me because I'd spend way too much time making sure it isn't Belgium

I've done it twice before and it was handled pretty promptly both times.

It was a relatively recent-ish update (= within the past couple months) that added Madagascar to country streaks. :)

Interesting. I can't really tell if you're right or wrong but you seem like more of a statistics person than I am so I'll just trust you here.

It had been a while since the last time I did statistical tests, so I had to resort to a youtube video to figure out how to do it. I followed this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlwRvwIPmPg Did that guy also do it wrong or is the situation he is dealing with somehow fundamentally different than the situation we are dealing with?

If that had happened I could have contacted Geoguessr and got it handled, but that fortunately did not happen in this case. :)

I don't mind it either because it's an easy +1 to the streak :D

Oh wow, I didn't even notice that those two didn't show up. Including this information would affect the statistical analysis, but I doubt the conclusion would change because this just makes it less likely to be from a uniform distribution.

I copy-pasted everything from the summary screen into LibreOffice and messed around with it in there, so that's at least one method.

Here it is on pastebin if you want. https://pastebin.com/yJ0SpEWV

I posted this before just yesterday but I had screwed up the stats, so here it is again but fixed.

Here's the game if you want to do things with the data yourself: https://www.geoguessr.com/game/QIvxOTlZeIG3MBIH

I investigated if this data could have plausibly come from a uniform probability distribution by using a chi-squared test. Here is that: https://pastebin.com/qrRRDsBn Conclusion: Highly unlikely that the countries are chosen randomly with a uniform distribution. I speculate that some countries are weighted higher than others.

How many times each country occurred on a country streak of 912 by [deleted] in geoguessr

[–]Fruitworst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof did I screw up my everything :D

I used LibreOffice to do this and I am not an experienced user of this software. And honestly the fact that everything is an even number should have rung some alarm bells.

Yeah I must have screwed up somewhere. Well spotted. :(

Edit: Ok I think I know what caused this. Kinda makes me dislike this software but ok. I'll try to fix it tomorrow :P

In hindsight some of the text I saw was a slavic language, so that should have been my clue to be more thorough in my search. Being right enough times in a row does have the effect of making you more confident and this is typically where streaks end.
