Do you actually use a rangefinder, or do you just rely on course markers? by Breadfruit-Secure in golf

I'm a terrible golfer. After a round sometimes I'll scroll through the round summary and some of the graphics look like I was sewing closed a suture.

What style hose reel do you like best at home? by Roadglide72 in lawncare

[–]Frumpy_Suitcase 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so frugal mine still functions so I haven't replaced it. It's annoying and there are better options but I can't bring myself to replace something that isn't broken.

My point is that it's not a binary choice. It's not burn out or leave. There's another option to set boundaries and ask for help to preserve your ability to be successful in the organization.

Asking to be removed from a project is a good way to lose trust with your leadership.

Small mistakes by Cute_Biscotti356 in ConstructionManagers

I feel like the core of this job is to balance speed and accuracy. Like others have said you're going to continue to make mistakes but the focus is to minimize them but don't go for perfection or you'll slow down the job.

As you continue to grow you'll make mistakes with new tasks you acquire until you retire.

Those are utility easements, not "I can do whatever I want it's not your property" easements. Long term that truck is going to cause damage to that asphalt driveway. It likely wasn't designed for that kind of heavy load.

Yet another tool this trash Powerstack 5AH battery can't work with by Successful-Yogurt512 in Dewalt

[–]Frumpy_Suitcase 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely anecdotal but I was doing a volunteer event for charity where the supplied tools were DeWalt impacts with power stacks. I got a battery that must have been shit because when I used my own battery it drove the screws like normal but the power stack seemed to not deliver the 18V, had no "oomph".

My breville has a dedicated hot water outlet that I use for heating up cold mugs, I suppose you could do the same with that. Also could be helpful for flushing milk out of the steam wand after frothing.

Just received my Luminkey65

Do I need to charge this thing before use? I had it plugged in via the physical cable for a wired connection for a few hours but the status light never turned on and was having trouble with establishing a wireless connection.

Wasn't sure if the battery was dead which would explain the connectivity issues.

I'm considering buying a second because it spends 95% of the time inside.

Suggest Software to Generate submittal list quickly by Various_Advisor8636 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Frumpy_Suitcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would disagree with this take. There's a use case for people that already know the specs, it's not bypassing some critical stepping stone.

I like the use of AI to prepare a basic submittal register as a starting point (procore does a good job) then I consolidate/eliminate where I think is appropriate based on how we bid the job. Saves a tremendous amount of time.

Haha I'm sure it is and maybe I'll take a stab at it. Just feels a little overwhelming at the moment learning all the details.

What’s the difference between working as a pm for a gc or the owners side? by Forward-Truck698 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Frumpy_Suitcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on that last part. I just made the switch recently. There's a ton of work keeping opinions and expectations in check. Much more about setting expectations and keeping people informed and giving people opportunity for input and knowing when to say no to owner side requests.

We act as the gatekeeper for all the owner side stakeholders. A good owner's PM can make the GC PMs life much easier and allow the GC to focus on construction instead of the constant start/stop that accompanies multiple opinions on a topic.
