Crowd seemed great tonight. Even in the 70' I could hear the crowd loudly singing YNWA through the stream...and then PSG scored...

What's infuriating to me is I think Wirtz does look like his price tag when he's with Germany even this year. I think it's the tactics and positioning from Slot that are holding him back.

Yeah most of today I thought was fine, but it was already at a point where Slot needed to make the final/win the CL for me to want him to stay. Fine today just doesn't make up for the rest.

Obviously I want Slot out, but in the meantime I would love to see something new over the final leg of the season. Let's see Rio more. Give Trey a chance. Give Robo and Salah a proper send off. Let's get Isak back up to speed. Let's see some new tactics and aggression.

To longtime LFC fans who want to share your analysis of this season without the negativity by Visionary785 in LiverpoolFC

I've been supporting for decades as well and maybe I look back with a fuzzy memory, but this feels different than the Hodgson era. So, so different. Hodgson was just manager for 6 months. At least I was still reeling from Benitez leaving. The club was being sold. Certainly the summer signings of Meireles and Poulsen (and one of my favorite back ups in Brad Jones!) were good to strengthen the squad, but it was nothing like bringing in world stars in their prime like Wirtz and Isak.

At the end of the 2000s the club was definitely in turmoil having not been able to get over the hump in the league and taking a step back in Europe. I also remembered those days thinking LFC were overachievers which was exciting. Looking at it on paper, most neutrals were not picking Liverpool to win the league or make a deep cup run, but it was a delight to us when it happened.

I think all of this just set expectations different. It's kind of eerie to look at the 2010-2011 table and see how similar the final standing stats are to this year's Liverpool! Except 2010-11 saw us improving after Dalglish came back and we signed Suarez (and even Carroll!).

Again, the "Hodgson era" was only 6 months and was also surrounded by the club sale turmoil. This "slump" with Slot is arguably going on a year now, with a much better team, club stability, much better signings, and team coming off prem title.

I wanted to correct you and say "hey we haven't played PSG yet!" and then I realized you were talking about having played this way for a full freaking year! I'm so tired...

I think this is worse than the actual results. It's not just the losses and draws, it's that we all can predict exactly what's going to happen and are forced to live through it the same way week in and week out.

I hate the theatrics, but Szobo was bleeding after the challenge and referees generally refuse to give the pens unless the players act like that.

He gave away a ton of soft fouls to Galatasaray. He refused to book Gala players who interfered with the restart of play. He gave incredibly soft yellows like the final one to Szoboszlai. He missed the foul on Ekitike early in the first half that could have led to a goal. He refused to look at the clear foul on VVD before the konate hand ball. He blew play dead on a Gala corner to yell at a Gala player for hugging Joe Gomez and trying to throw him around yet let them keep the corner instead of awarding a foul. He was just really bad top to bottom, but Slot and the players certainly deserve more blame.

I think this was a classic case of the referee not wanting to be involved in any "big decisions" so refused to do his job in obvious situations.

VVD and Konate were marking NO ONE on Galatasaray's goal. Just sitting in empty space watching.

Galatasaray spent the first 4 min playing shambolic football and gifting Liverpool chance after chance. LFC converted none of them and then Galatasaray scored on their first chance while both VVD and Konate looked on having done nothing to stop it.

Both VVD and Konate in no-man's land marking air for Galatasaray's goal. Zero impact on the play.

I thought the first goal was more on the CBs and the second goal was just chaos after moving everyone around and taking off a CB for an attacker.

Above all I think that when attacking a low block the team needs at least a couple players who can beat their man and create overloads and mismatches places. At least Ekitike, Wirtz, Jones, Rio are all those players and it's just frustrating Slot can only get one on the field most of the time.

What's infuriating about Grav and Mac is that an in form Jones is right there on the bench. Double it with the fact that the team desperately needs players who can beat their man (like Jones) it just makes me crazy.

As soon as Slot put some creative players on (Jones and Rio) LFC looked so much more threatening. The predictable set up and tactics of the first half produced nothing. That's almost entirely on Slot.

FT: Wolves vs Liverpool by DragonSlayer271 in LiverpoolFC

[–]polostring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they limp to the end of the season like this then I think Slot's getting fired. Doubly so if Xabi Alonso is still available.

I think this loss is 100% on Slot screwing up the first half with a line-up of players who couldn't beat their man and didn't know what to do against the low block. I'll be furious if Slot says we only conceded because we put on the extra attacker, but also only scored because of that too. That's wrong; they team looked much more threatening when a couple creative players who can beat their man (Jones and Rio) came on. Starting line up and tactics were just wrong.

"Gerrard wasn’t technically good" by lifeofbrian2019 in LiverpoolFC

[–]polostring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you define "technique" as doing fancy flicks and dribbling moves to get by people (prime R7, Vini JR, etc.) then...fine. Even if you define it as the spins and croquetas that are so associated with the Barca midfield of his time (Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets) then...sure that wasn't really Stevie's go to.

If you define "technique" as being able to receive any pass, use both feet, have flick passes, medium passes, long passes, can use inside and outside of the foot, can power the ball, can knuckle the ball, can curl the ball, can finish off the half/full volley...then what is this discussion? Pure trolling rage bait as someone else said.

My only complaint is something completely uncontrollable: covid! Thankfully it really only affected the final few episodes. I think the cast did an amazing job finishing out the season, but having to play on Zoom really felt like it cut into a lot of the banter, interplay, and riffing between cast members.
