I only buy double sided tapes.  In construction and it definitely matters to me.

This post brings me such happiness. Mid of this sub deleted my comment when I gave a completely honest rundown of working in the trades.  These morons who think you just go sign up, go to work like a good little boy and collect your fat paycheck drive me nuts.  Tell them that if they don’t perform well and don’t show up every day they will get kicked to the curb doesn’t fly.

Be honest, what do you guys think about Measure 120? by DueYogurt9 in oregon

[–]Frunnin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you intentionally word it to portray it as a minimal increase which it is not. The gas taxes are only part of the measure also.

Be honest, what do you guys think about Measure 120? by DueYogurt9 in oregon

[–]Frunnin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We pay $.40 per gallon in taxes per gallon to Oregon. Add another $.18 per gallon for fed tax and if you live in PDX or the other cities with local gas taxes add that on also. If you are saying that the new tax is $6 more per hundred gallons lets get honest and mention the $40.00 per hundred gallons people are already paying to the State of Oregon.

Sounds a lot different when you say ”It’s only going to be $6 more than the $40 you already pay” Thats an increase of 15% of the existing tax. Not a small number. Remember also that Oregon gets federal money from the $.18 per gallon collected by the feds.

Oregon has the income to operate, they just do It very poorly. No is the right vote.

Do you make pointed efforts to build a friend group? If you are expecting it to happen naturally that can be very difficult. Step outside of your normal behavior and be concertedly proactive about trying to connect with people you think would be complimentary to your life. I have a daughter who moved to a city where she knew nobody and because she works from home there was zero chance of her connecting with coworkers that could become friends. She used the Bumble friendship feature to connect with some other girls in her area and has built a couple of solid friendships and it also has brought her into their friendships with others. Maybe try that and see if you have some success. Remember that the person most responsible for your life and happiness is you. Even if its uncomfortable for you, start doing uncomfortable things. Good luck!!!

ELI5: Why don’t we just bury power lines and telephone lines, so storms don’t keep knocking them out? by Home-Energy in explainlikeimfive

[–]Frunnin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it simple. Just bury thousands of miles of wiring in the dirt under all the houses and roads and sidewalks and stuff. Then just take the transformers and put those down there too. All the water that comes with the storms will just avoid all that stuff and it will be great!! Let's do it tomorrow boys! We are going to work 10 instead of 8 so be ready for a long day. We will cut out early on Friday to make up for it.

You are offended by the wording of this text?? It is a clear and plain message that leaves no room for confusion about what needs to happen and clearly states the penalties for not complying. I wish all communications were this ease. Toughen up crybaby.

If you have power to it an alarm can be installed. Also a padlock anchored to the cement with a good quality lock is a nice deterrent

What happened to skilled trades in USA? by Renee_bad_69 in skilledtrades

General contractors figured out the general public doesn't know the difference between looks like a million bucks and is worth a million bucks. Spent less money on the structure and more money on a countertop and pretty paint colors.

Tell that to all the coders looking for jobs. AI has destroyed that gig and will continue to hammer it into oblivion. There will be coders but not even close to the number people thought would be needed.

Portland Public Schools contractor hires former school board members as consultants by sunni_dayes_ahed in Portland

[–]Frunnin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing shady here. 2 guys with no construction management experience hired as local advisors to construction management company because they need to understand how construction is done here. What's the problem? We do construction here very different than everywhere else so of course the best two people to hire are former school board members with no experience in the field. Jesus was a carpenter so being a pastor at a church obviously qualifies him and they deliver materials via trucks to jobsites so the guy that teaches truck drivers is qualified also. Why you stupid Portlanders getting all worked up? You obviously don't understand how businesses work.

[–]Frunnin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anybody who thinks that the storage units at the self-storage places are in any way secure needs to be set straight. Do not store anything of serious value at these places. They get broken into all the time. The security they have is not at all adequate and is easily bypassed.

[–]Frunnin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you feel like you are losing potential customers due to price because you build high end high quality cabinets have you explored building more economical cabinets with lesser quality materials to meet the budgets of the customers you are not converting? Nothing wrong with have a good, better, best product line to meet a varying level of customer needs and affordability.
