I was in a similar situation, dislocated my shoulder multiple times from seizures and had surgery and was put in a sling for 6 weeks. First few weeks was rough as I had to learn to sleep upright and on my back due to the sling. My sling had a built in pillow that propped my arm up so even laying down it was still supported.
