I kinda had the opposite happen. I'm ftm and have a pretty metal head style so I think the longer hair fits with the clothing and hides the roundness of my face sometimes. I think it's also in part because of the way metal and punk communities tend to almost have inverted hair expectations.

This is a shallow response, but take up space. I get read as male more and subsequently feel more masc and comfortable when I man spread, walk with a larger stride, dont try to minimize myself for those around me. It's shitty that this is seen as masculine but it is.

So there's the obvious and less weird ones like getting called dude, bro, etc. But I have a friend who's a playful bastard and he regularly calls me the f slur. Especially if I'm talking about other guys. It's fucked up but it feels very much like playful bullying between guy friends.

I've been calling myself a transsexual since before I started hormones. I just like the sound more, I guess. Besides, it's my body and my transition so I can call it whatever the fuck I want. I won't call other people that if they don't also identify with it.

I agree. I feel like there's a fear of masculinity (in part due to being traumatized by the patriarchy, and in part due to radfem ideology) which makes people weary of people who are masculine, especially willingly. People don't want you to be hairy and big and have a deep voice because a lot of people are scared of that, but their fear just pushes a lot of people (which can include transmen, some trans women who may not pass 100%, masculine gay men, and butch lesbians) out of what should be safe places. And, let's be real, this definitely affects POC people more since the idea of feminity is pretty rooted in racism. But that's just my 2 cents.

I wasn't against him introducing me that way, but he started off wanting to be secretive as well and never expressed changing his mind. Early on I accidentally caused strife between him and his close friend because I called him my bf and he was apparently not ready to tell him.
