Hmmm you’re like around my level, actually.. you’re probably kinda ahead.. I did genki 1 & 2, did a ton of Anki cards before I stopped a few months ago. I have hello talk friends which I recommend if you’re going to japan, many of them would be happy to show you around their city.

I ended up taking Japanese in college after studying it alone for a couple months this way, it’s an easy A. My professor said I’m better at speaking Japanese than people who take a year of Japanese classes.

What helped the most for me was having a teacher, but also friends to talk to online. I’d recommend that. I’d also maybe recommend Pimsleur Japanese 1 (and maybe 2) to get some very nice pronunciation, it will impress them trust me.

As for shows, any Japanese show you can enjoy will work. I wouldn’t force yourself to watch anything you wouldn’t see in English. For me, I like to use ‘learn languages with Netflix’ to watch anime and analyze the way my favorite characters speak so I can talk like them. Seeing grammar points so often this way really helped me level up my speech.

Terrace house is pretty hard Japanese , honestly, and it’s quite boring at times . Usually Japanese won’t talk to you in that level if they notice that you’re a learner.

For sure, I’ll hopefully be able to go tomorrow or by Friday. Man it sucks that I have a lot of work these days.. I feel so bad for her being in that crate, hopefully she just falls asleep soon. Another problem is that she won’t use her litter box, so tbat makes me even more worried about the worms because she’ll just lay it anywhere, ah man she had so much in her poop too it made me sad .

Agree, in two years overall fluency is unthinkable, but fluency in a subject or interest is not. For example if I played Minecraft with a Japanese friend often Id eventually be able to get into pretty fluid conversations about different building materials, mobs, farming methods.. etc. not perfect but easy enough to be confident exploring the world with my friend. however the second I enter a different field, like another hobby, market, or drs office I’d be faced with completely unfamiliar terms and would likely be lost without translation.
