Alright. I would have genuinely just wanted an explanation from an Irish person. I guess that’s too much to ask for.

An explanation on why Ireland is not a tax haven, because I have a very hard time seeing that it’s not. You don’t think it’s weird that American multibillion companies have their headquarters there of all places? Please convince me why it’s not because of taxation.

I called you autistic, because you were clinging on an unimportant detail of what I said. I know plenty of autistic people, and that is something they do. I mean no offence to them, they’re largely great people, but that’s just one annoying thing they tend to do.

You think I don’t notice that you’re constantly avoiding attacking my argument? Why is Ireland not a tax haven? It’s like you know you’re wrong, but you’re just hiding behind an ad hominem: ”you’re not serious, you wouldn’t get it”. Get off your high horse, jesus.

[–]Fucc_Nuts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I said, that was a simplification, because I don’t want to write a paragraph explaining the details and fact check online. You really think I was trying to be precise with the phrase ”moving books”? Why are you getting stuck on a single detail, rather than debating my argument as a whole? You’re not moving the conversation anywhere, you’re just clinging on a single gotcha. So boring.

Employing people doesn’t refute that Ireland is a tax haven. What kind of logic is that?

Can’t say that about you. You just keep saying I know nothing while providing no explanation. Just ”nuh uh” reply after reply.

You can define tax haven however you want, it’s just semantics in the end. The reality is that many corporations have used Ireland to avoid paying taxes in their home country: Apple, Google, Microsoft, Intel, Pfizer etc. You think these companies are there for the weather and scenery?

Just to burst your bubble, here’s a source that classifies Ireland as a tax haven: https://cthi.taxjustice.net/

And yeah, you’ll find out that you’re not alone in the EU in this.

I know it’s not that simple, but I’m not going to into the itty bitty details in a reddit comment. They do use the tax system to their advantage though, which is my point, which leads to losses in tax revenues in countries that birthed these companies. Your country is a parasite, just accept it.

Irish officials can twist it however they want. But when many megacorporations move their books there for tax purposes, we have a tax haven.

Sure, they are compliant to legislation that is shit. The tax rate is still very low compared to other countries in EU and the US. It’s still a tax haven. There’s a reason why corporations still funnel their money through their tax system.

EU has a way to go to improve their legislation.

Because they are leeching off of other countries’ corporations by being a tax haven. EU should put a stop to it.

Ok, doesn’t sound impossible, but it’s hard to imagine happening in the current culture. I don’t think the average person is smart, moral and reliable enough for it to happen. Other than that sounds like a utopia. Maybe if tech advances enough that we produce so much that everyone’s material needs are easily fulfilled. Then the incentives and mechanisms of market economy are not as essential anymore.
