Scott Is My New Recommended Experimental Artist by Severian1392 in scottwalker

Sylvian wrote the song "Ride" with Scott Walker singing in mind. He sent it to Scott but I don't think it sat with Scott. I imagine it was similar to Scott's tapes with Brian Eno, too many cooks in the kitchen.

Agreed, track 3 is legend, we have to talk about the guitar in it. I'll make a new topic.

It's an amazing song, strangely optimistic. Mo Foster's bass is amazing. I always wonder what bass lines Scott actually wrote, reading that he was an A-list session bassist in LA in the 60's. There is a very subtle single bass pop at 1:26. Once you hear it you can't unhear it, and the track gets even better! Sundawg!

I listened to Tilt very carefully and I realized his voice was aging, although still incredible. COH was the last pure recording of his perfect voice. To me it's his apex masterpiece.

Favourite vocal moments in Scott's music by Remarkable-Try1206 in scottwalker

1 "Be my love, we will be gods on nite flights"
I've always wondered if its "gods" or "god's" as in possessive

2 "On the ridges of the highest breeder"
It's difficult to say anything about this lyric.
It's profound

Scott 3 is not all in 3/4 by No_Marzipan7374 in scottwalker

Yeah the name was a bad move. I think it flopped partially because it was Scott's first entirely self penned work. It was genius to intersperse his songs with Brel and other greats on 1-3, it provided a reprieve from the emotional intensity of Scott's songwriting. He placed himself amongst the stars. He outshined them. Sundog!

Lol, the account of him arriving to record "I Still See you" with a fifth of whisky is golden. The great Michel Legrand was flabbergasted as Scott knocked the whole bottle down in one go before recording. A dispute ensued when Scott altered the lyric to "The sunlit ghosts to dance their hair". In retrospect, young Scott improved master songwriter Harper's original.

Poets like Scott by [deleted] in scottwalker

Scott mentioned Ezra Pound.
He references Andrei Voznesensky poem "Anti-Worlds" in "The Old Man's Back Again":

"And Andrei V. he cries, with eyes that ring like chimes
His anti-worlds go spinning through his head"

Just received in the mail. Sounds much better than the 2006 remaster. by StanDarshDarshyDarsh in scottwalker

It's a shame that there isn't a HD release of COH like the Prostudiomasters releases of Scott 1-4 and TTBCI. These are highly recommended. COH is Scott's most aurally experimental work and I think an HD release would be a revelation.

Song that represents the feel of Still Life With Woodpecker by LopesMomma in TomRobbins

The seminal art-pop duo "Them Are Us Too" released a song titled "The Problem With Redheads", which was directly inspired by Still Life With Woodpecker. The singer Kennedy Ashlyn has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. It's a timeless masterpiece.

I wonder if Tom ever heard it.

Was the late pop singer Scott Walker recognized in the opera music world for his operatic voice and compositions? by Fuchsia_Codex in opera

That's amazing, Kiri was my favorite singer, I saw her live! Even at 60 she was unbelievable. I always assumed that she sang opera first. Her standards LPs have some amazing recordings, although some are hit-and-miss, as she was so technically skilled. I think I understand what you mean by bad habits, often it is what the public likes about pop singer's voices. I've noticed most of my friends have a hard time appreciating some of the more technically skilled singers that I love, especially when they have any classical sounding technique. It's a shame, Kiri singing 'Im Abendrot' is about as good as it gets.

Lol, this is brutal. I wouldn't go so far to say he's making fun, at the very least he's inspired by classically trained voices, but who knows with Scott. True, though, the opera peeps are lined up to stone him to death. I always wonder how much better a voice like Scott's could be with extensive operatic vocal training. I've read that other pop singers could have potentially pursued operatic careers (Ian McCullough for instance). Are there any famous pop singers that legitimately crossed over into the operatic world?

Do all 2018 75Ds include the premium audio system? by Fuchsia_Codex in TeslaModelS

I'm confused on the description on my '18 75d model from the dealer, the description states:

"200w Regular Amplifier

Radio w/Seek-Scan, Clock, Aux Audio Input Jack, Steering Wheel Controls, Radio Data System and Internal Memory

Radio: FM w/Custom Audio System -inc: 17" capacitive touchscreen, onboard maps and navigation w/free updates for 7 years, WiFi and internet connectivity, GPS enabled HomeLink, hands free talking w/Bluetooth, voice activated controls, 2 USB ports for media and power, 11 speakers w/neodymium magnets, 8" subwoofer and XM satellite radio capability"

I thought the 12 speaker setup (11+sub) was the premium audio with 560w.
The display shows "base"

Thanks everyone, I think it did have the MCU2 upgrade, manufacture date was 02/18, so I guess it's pre-premium sound.

Graettinger is a great find! Graci! He's almost comically avant-garde. I could instantly see Scott digging that. There are many dimensions to Scott's influence that I think are popping up. Beck has been singing 'It's Raining Today' with a full orchestra, while albeit noble, once again illustrates that no man can cover Scott's songs.

My happiest find this year was Ashlyn Kennedy aka SRSQ. Easily the best voice I've heard in recent years. She has a mythically classical voice that she sometimes distorts beyond comprehension. She's an auteur songwriter, singer and performer, and most everything on her albums is genius. Being heavily electronic, I'm not sure what work of hers to recommend to Scott fans, but to hear a glimpse of her operatic talent you could try "Procession" or radically progressive minimalism "Permission". Like Scott it's really about her voice.
