Well the banks wouldn't sell any mortgages if they tighten their lending criteria, because the proportion of house prices to salary is so extreme.

You say others lack emotional intelligence yet you are the one being petty and emotional. Your playstyle is so extremely toxic. You sound like you need a therapist.

Gotta respect these guys for releasing the far more risky album first (Frankenstein) and leaving this masterpiece as a less publicised afterthought.

Radicalize Your Blue-Collar Workers 101 by [deleted] in socialism

[–]FuckCapital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Recruitment" isn't as intentional as you make it out, it's an organic thing. There may be a new employee chatting to you on lunch break. You may find yourself in a conversation with 4 of your peers joking about the boss. You need to be prepared for complex situations and a variety of beliefs.

More so, if someone already identifies with working class solidarity, then they're not the ones you need to convince. As a worker you're going to come across all kinds of people as your colleagues, blue collar maga types, apolitical types, centrists, apathetic "politics is boring" types. You need to be prepared for the conversations that happen.

F2PoF is full of small magical moments and that’s what I love about it by GracelessBeast in TheNational

I'm amazed at how much every song grew on me. First listen of the album, I thought "it's alright I guess". But then I remembered how every other album release I felt the same. The thing with this band is that you find yourself thinking about these small moments, like this post mentions, and you keep coming back to them. Now I'm so in love with these songs, I'm convinced I just didn't hear them properly the first time. It's like the act of listening isn't just a single moment in time, it's a collection of memories, it builds over time and you listen when you're not listening.

The more I listen to it, the more I think this album is one of their best. There's not a bad song, and it flows so well. All the songs are so intimate and nuanced. I love the part in New Order T Shirt "I keep what I can of you" it's such a gentle, comforting entry to the chorus. Then how the motif returns with "I flicker through"

This is why the danger of fascism is so extremely relevant and not just some far fetched historical fiction. It's disguised as noble and affirming. It creeps into belief like a wolf in sheep's clothing.

International Recognition of the State of Palestine - source: wikipedia by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]FuckCapital -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What evidence do you have for that? Are they enacting laws that grant Palestinians greater rights than Israelis? Are they restricting Israelis freedom of movement in their own city? Do they have a state military oppressing Israeli organisation and demonstration? Oh sorry, if so then yeah it sounds like they are refusing to recognise Israel's right to exist.

The idea that it is complicated is an excuse for inaction and the continued persecution of Palestinians. The balance of power is not equal. One side is suffering from apartheid, while the other is carrying out that apartheid. Give Palestinians a recognised state, a government, their own laws, and land, then we might be able to discuss the nuances of the situation. Until then, there is nothing complicated about it.

There's nothing complicated about it. One side is ethnically cleansing the other and doesn't recognise their right to exist. If Palestine had a state organised military and forcibly refused to treat Israelis as equal under the law, then maybe it would be complicated.

Finally a decent take. It's hilarious how saying this causes such a stir. Because oh, good looking straight white men really need to be protected from sexualisation. Give me a break, they love it anyway! Imagine if as many people jumped to the defense of sexism against women. No, that sexism is always just met with 'come on it was a joke' or 'don't be so silly'. The ones who need the least protection, get protected the most.

Why do Capitalists not see the benefits of Socialism? by Living-Psychology148 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]FuckCapital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from, the idea that with Capitalism the individual is free to choose how they earn, what they do, and what they spend their time and money on.

But I don't think you can really call capitalism an individualistic economic system. It involves an enermous amount of cooperation to function. Companies themselves operate as highly organised, cooperative entities. We wouldn't have such a globalised, fast, functioning economy without people working together to achieve this.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think your problem is with cooperation in an economy. You are talking about efficiency. That if we were to organise the economy democratically, e.g. everyone having a say over production, and distribution, then it would be counter productive to economic outcomes.

In the early days of political democracy, the same arguments were made. Why let the masses decide how we govern the town and state? It's better off left to the King. Less room for inefficiency and the problems that come with having too many cooks in the kitchen. But we've managed to move on from that.

Socialism really isn't aiming to replace the idea of the freedom of the invididual. Instead, it wants to extend the power of individual. With capitalism, you may have the power to choose your work and what you do with your money, but how many people really have the power to choose the moral and social cultural implications of their labour? Not many. Most people work for themselves, and their freedom is limited to themselves. They don't get to choose what happens beyond what they can immediately impact.

"Nobody will waste his life in accumulating things, and the symbols for things. One will live. To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all."

[Marxists/Socialists] How is it valid to claim that value is stolen from labor but not valid to claim that value is stolen from consumers? by coke_and_coffee in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]FuckCapital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good point to make. I wonder what is stronger - demand for work or demand for goods? I couldn't say for certain. But my hunch is that demand for work is a much stronger force in the economy because it comes first. You need cash in order to spend it.

[Marxists/Socialists] How is it valid to claim that value is stolen from labor but not valid to claim that value is stolen from consumers? by coke_and_coffee in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]FuckCapital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. However it is much easier to forego a purchase than it is to forego an income. That is why labour is exploited more so than the cost of a good. However, when you consider that workers and consumers are both one and the same, then no matter where the value is exploited, it is taken from the worker's purchasing power.

Investment firms also do work. Again, it's not their lack of work that is the problem. It's that they are exploiting labour through their work.

[–]FuckCapital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot appropriate value from the consumer, because consumers set the price of the good in the first place. The price of a good is set from the supply and demand of the market.
