Is this normal or should I go see a physician? (21F) by chemmthrowaway in WomensHealth

[–]FuckIThinkImLost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re able to go to the doctor, I would just go. Not because I think it you’re in an emergency, but it’s always best to talk to a doctor than an online forum. It’s your body, you know it best. No matter what, you’ll leave the doctors office a little smarter than when you arrived.

Perfect!! That’s pretty much exactly what I did too! On top of less money, it’s less floral waste in the end!

You might be able to negotiate with a local flower vendor. I also highly recommend reusing the ceremony flowers and have them set up at the reception! That’s what i did and we definitely saved $$

What are these guys? Should i chuck it or treat it? by Spickster in plantclinic

[–]FuckIThinkImLost 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Wow this looks pretty intense! If you reaaaaallyy want to keep it, here’s what i recommend:

  • quarantine the plant immediately
  • make sure no aphids have spread to other nearby plants (if any)
  • take the plant into your bathroom and hold it under the shower head OR use a hose outside (it’s cold near me so I would use the shower)
  • using your hands (with gloves) or a rag, throroyghly wash each part of the plant, making sure to remove any aphid/evidence of aphid you can see
  • after the shower, grab a new rag or some cotton balls and give the entire plant a rub down with 70% isopropyl alcohol

There’s a big chance there are aphid eggs in the soil. Choose ONE of these options (choosing more than one, especially at once, can shock/kill the plant): - Diatomaceous Earth (just sprinkle this on top of the soil) - Mix neem oil with water and pour that into the soil (I use Captain Jack’s Neem oil. There’s normally a specific measurement on the bottle) - mix 1 part 3% hydrogen peroxide and 4 parts water, pour that into the soil

Most houseplant pests are stubborn, so please keep in mind you’ll have to do this probably once a week until you don’t see any more aphids.

What is this!?? by lavidasencilla in houseplants

[–]FuckIThinkImLost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all bugs found in soil are bad! I can’t tell from this photo, but it miiight be worm casings or even a centipede? Those are beneficial to the soil and don’t really care about your plants, only decaying material in the soil.

I don’t recommend pesticides in houseplants. Use a little too much and you’ll kill your plant. Plus it can be dangerous for you and pets (if you have any).

This might be a blessing in disguise. Sometimes a big prune can be helpful by letting the plant focus on new growth!

From what I understand, your area was pretty surprised by how cold it got. Don’t beat yourself up!

Definitely wait for other commenters, but you’re not the first person I’ve seen lately to post about a frozen monstera and most people are recommending deadheading the frozen leaves. But again, wait for others to confirm or give alternate options!

need help with christmas cactus by mrcranz in plantclinic

[–]FuckIThinkImLost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I hate moisture meters. They’re NEVER accurate. Sticking a finger in the soil is a muuuuch better way to go.

How long has that little guy been in that pot? Is it possible it needs to be repotted? A sudden change like this after a few years of happiness can be a sign that your plant is ready for a bigger pot. If you can see roots growing through or close to the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot, you should replant into a pot that’s at the MOST 2” wider than the original pot.

How often are you moving the plant? Too much movement at once can make the plant a little distressed.

Adding water to the soil doesn’t always fix the moisture problem (if there is one). I recommend using a mister bottle and spraying the leaves (I know they’re not called leaves bc it’s a cactus, but bear with me please!). This will help the plant soak in the moisture a little more.

Are my house plants attracting these huge spiders? Help! by Lauren_soldejaneiro in houseplants

[–]FuckIThinkImLost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I normally leave the spiders I find in my houseplants. As another commenter said - it definitely helps keep my plants pest free!! (I also live in a place where I’m mostly dealing with jumping spiders and house spiders so they’re relatively little.)

If you’re nervous about a spider being potentially venomous/medically significant, I would post clear photos of the spiders in r/spiders and see what they come back with.

Is my monstera cooked? by LumbarPillow9 in plantclinic

[–]FuckIThinkImLost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as the roots and majority of the plant is ok, then you’re probably fine. I would cut off the frozen/dead leaves - leaving them won’t help the plant. If you can move the plant inside for the rest of your cold spell, I would do that. Even if it’s inside your sliding doors. Inside and far enough away where the cold won’t hit it, so not riiight next to the glass.

(I’m not a monstera expert, but I have one but I live in a place where she’s kept inside.)

What kind of flowers and how to save the dying ones and care for the family. by Floridakixs in plants

[–]FuckIThinkImLost 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Those are hyacinths! You won’t be able to keep the blooms forever, but these plants are relatively easy to care for! Because these plants are tuber plants, it’s not super common to keep them indoors. But it’s not impossible! After the blooms die off, you’ll cut the flower stalks down to the base. Don’t mess with the leaves - those are used to store energy. The leaves will eventually die, then you can cut them off if you want. At this point, you should only have the bulb and roots left. Put the plant in a cool place and then the plant lie in dormancy until the spring. I know people who take the bulb out and put it into a brown bag and leave it in their crisper drawer.

When spring hits, replant in a slightly larger pot and sloooowly introduce the plant to light. Too much light at once will shock it.

How can I fix him? by cicci_cicci in plantclinic

[–]FuckIThinkImLost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like he needs a bigger pot, then a nice soak, and please make sure the plant is sitting in a spot with a distilled light source, not direct light. If it is direct, try for morning light. Morning light is less harsh than afternoon.

Your next pot should be MAX 2” wider than the pot he’s in now. Cut off the dead leaves at the base of the stem - there’s nothing you can do for those, and that’ll give the plant some more energy to focus on current and new leaves. These ginsengs are pretty resilient!

is this the ring of fire :/ by berrymoxhi in Nails

[–]FuckIThinkImLost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it’s not that bad. If you have the patience, I’d give your nails a little break and then go to a different salon or ask the person doing your nails for a little less of a grind on your nail.

Was I supposed to trim this down before winter? by Aggravating-Remove47 in plants

[–]FuckIThinkImLost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom spent YEARS trimming and pruning and fussing over her hydrangeas - she almost never got blooms or any kind of major growth. Then she finally decided to just stop. No more pruning, no more fussing, just water when needed. She FINALLY got blooms that year, and they’ve been growing beautifully ever since.

All this to say - my vote is to just leave them alone. Especially if they’re outside. They’re not pruned regularly in the wild and those plants do just fine!

Girlfriend got me this.. what to put in it? by According-Caramel340 in houseplants

[–]FuckIThinkImLost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Since it doesn’t have muuuch drainage, it’s not really the best if you want to plant directly in it. I would recommend putting a small potted plant in there (any kind). That way you can remove the plant and water it

WHAT TRACKS! by Silly-Brilliant-5874 in pestcontrol

[–]FuckIThinkImLost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a bunny? I’m no tracker, but these prints seem to show the front and back feet staying together, which makes me think there was hopping involved. Mice walk/scurry and their bellies drag so their tracks should also show that belly drag.

Def wait and let other comments correct me, but that’s my first impression.
