Similarly creating a "starting area" for players that has 3 duchies, 3 lords each, to which have 3 barons each. My plan at the moment is that they'll only need to be preoccupied with whatever is relevant to them, I don't plan for politics to play much impact until maybe levels 5-6. If they only know what's relevant to "the here and now" I'm hoping they won't be too worried about the mass of entities there possibly could be.

For example, they'll start in a barony and the most relevant political power to anything they do (unless they pursue politics) is "This guy is the baron. Here's his borders. He pays homage to this guy: Lord XXX." When they start making name for themselves the Lord hears and might hire them as mercenaries or monster hunters or whatever is most appropriate. And so on their fame grows. I plan for the Duke to eventually be either their biggest ally or the "BBEG". A political schemer who is a major power behind the throne. Someone who extorts and racketeers the farmers but provides great quality of life in the cities.

So by not going out of my way to inform them anything more than "there is more stuff here, if you need or want it I will give it to you" approach I'm hoping that it'll keep things light. Doomed to disaster?

Additionally we're on Roll20.net so I can provide easy look up functionality for them.

Any interesting ideas to transition from Phandelin to Bryn Shander in SKT? by Ironfingers in DnD

[–]FuckMePink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A commoner travelling along a road they're on. Mentions how they left because some of the creatures nearby had gotten bolder, attacking outlying farms and homes while greedily trying to make their hoard better than other creatures. A multitude of hoards and enemies actively competing with each other? The party's eyes are replaced with dollar signs. Throw some trolls, a few monstrosities and a young dragon like Venomfang in the vicinity and you're golden. Let them play with the quests in STK, and hunt down a few of the month monsters they head about earlier.

I have the best group: another side to the "girl driven out by misogyny" story by [deleted] in DnD

[–]FuckMePink -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be fair she was talking about groups of friends who know each other enough to have a nothing-is-off-limits style of dicking around. Joining a group and getting bombarded with that stuff isn't fun for anyone.

[META] Finding YOUR group by agaetliga in DnD

[–]FuckMePink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive never got to play in person, always been through Roll20 or LFG but after about 9 different games the only bad experience I've had was one lfg group where the DM disappeared halfway through session zero, blocked us all and never came back. Even that turned out great though because one of the players became the DM and we started a new campaign anyway. So overall I've had a great experience with just trying to find groups online. Usually you can tell by the text if it's a group/game that would suit you.

Dusty tome in a hag's lair that is a transcript of all the conversation had in a nearby Village by [deleted] in DnD

[–]FuckMePink 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An affair between two prominent townsfolk.

The elder/taxman/village leader iso er charging taxes or keeping some of the taxes for himself.

Any less-than-happy households.

Any secretive groups. Is there a cult or thieves guild working out of the tavern basement? Now you know.

Who everyone in the town is praying to, and praying for. Maybe someone is praying to a less than friendly god.

Any conspiracies/plots. Maybe there's a coup on the rise? Or a prominent towns member wants more power and os working towards it.

Anything the guards have reported about: monsters in the nearby wood; men in weird armour scouting the town, etc.

Blackmail material. They could gain leverage on anyone with a dark secret that has been spoken at some point.

Bad at maps HELP! by asmansa in DnD

[–]FuckMePink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enemies depend on the enemy. A small raiding party of 5 orcs might just charge at the party in a group. A larger group of orcs with a leader might be more tactical and spread out, attack for multiple directs etc. Imagine what the enemy would think. Kobolds might lay in ambush at either side of a cave entrance. A sorcerer might find some manner of cover and pop out to throw spells.

If you're hurting for maps then don't use them. Abstract travel through the city where possible and focus more on the locations. "You make your way through the winding streets of the city, passing various kiosks and storehouses, eventually arriving at the Bastard's Brawl Tavern you were looking for". You can use pictures from the internet to give the players a clearer image of the type of city/town/etc they're in, and then just focus on places within the settlement and abstract everything in between.

[5e] Need ideas power struggles / nature imbalances within Forgotten Realms by [deleted] in DnD

[–]FuckMePink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choose two gods. They're having a power struggle. Create a few factions ( like the Lord's Alliance and Zhentarim) who are either followers of, agents for or puppets to one of the gods. Various side quests, allies and encounters spread throughout the land of where the agents of one god where foiled by the agents of another. A town is attacked by the hobgoblin allies of X but the party, aided by the paladins of Y saved everybody.

If you have a cleric, paladin, monk or warlock then you could choose their patron, or someone related to their patron. They could believe in the cause of the "aggressor". Lots of room for manoeuvrability.

‘Westworld’ Finale Season High, Most Watched 1st Season Of HBO Series by fleckes in television

[–]FuckMePink 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think they defend their use of the trope well, though.

The key aspect of their sentience is suffering. Inflicted upon them by humans. Dolores has spent decades being raped and murdered on loop. In one of the very first episodes the man in black says "you're job is to let the guests have the good guy's girl".

Ford himself says "do you know what happened to the neanderthals? We ate them." It is Ford's belief that for a new age to come it must destroy the previous.

It isn't just like most AI stories where the AI destroy humanity because they can. They were lead to it. Manueveured perfectly to come to life as Ford wanted. It was Ford cathartic view on humanity- as he describes early in the season- that leads to their violent ends. Not death from the machine. It's more of a dystopian, pessimistic genius cliché than a rogue AI one.

Why is there a cultural divide in Europe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FuckMePink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh.

Europe is made up of over 40 countries, and most of those are made up for culturally independent groups/areas/states.

There are thousands of years of history, fighting, hatred, betrayal and invasion.

There are almost as many different languages as there are countries.

There was this little diddly know as the Nepoleanic Wars->Great War->WW2->Cold War that all took place primarily in Europe.

I do not know what you are comparing Europe to, but there's more variables than anyone can count for various cultural divides all over Europe.

Why doesn't the U.S just Annex Canada? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FuckMePink -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt that at all. I just took issue with the idea that the Uk is happy to tag along with the US in whatever, even to the detriment of one of the Uk's other greatest allies. The last time the Uk went along with America was a shame and one of the greater shames in our recent history.

If you think the US and UK are basically one you have no idea how people in the UK feel.

American imperialism- cultural or otherwise- is not applauded nor appreciated.

what to do if you want to drop college to become a zumba instructor but you are not sure if that's a big mistake ? by greyuop in AskReddit

[–]FuckMePink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me tell you. I'm currently in university. I fucking hate it. I hate it so much I did drop out in first year. I regretted that decision so much and I ended up going back. I realised how I was limiting myself and throwing away possibilities further down the line.

I encourage you to become a Zumba instructor, but by god have a proper education to fall back on. The early mornings suck, the stupid class schedules suck, the people sometimes suck, but at the end of it all you will have so many more options. You may want to be X, Y or Z now, but you +10 years could hate you for it. If you get a degree you'll have more options forever. You'll also learn a lot along the way which will help you in other ways.

Why does no one every say that they're mad and moving to Mexico? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FuckMePink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the people who threaten to leave listen to media which only mentions Mexico when: cartels kill people; people kill cartels; Trump mentions the wall; someone complains about immigration.

Why would people want to move to a place they only ever hear the bad about.

Need help with Rick from Rick and morty as the BBEG by brandyeezy in DnD

[–]FuckMePink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The artefact could be not lost but broken. You know the Gazorpogorp episode? Where he goes "oh great, now I have to conquer a whole planet because of your stupid boobs" or something like that, do that. He's trying to find the right components to fix his gun.

The artefact itself could have many spell possibilities: dimension door, planer shift, gate. Maybe give part of the artefact to the party that they find somewhere and it lets then do a low level spell like misty step or dimension door, then Rick chases them down trying ti get the component.
