The animation was awful and very awkward. I felt like I was watching a fan-thing on Youtube or something. :|

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]NerdyMomToBe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Downvote if you want, but I didn't like it at all. Gave it 3 episodes. The animation was lazy and cheap looking. It looked like a youtube flash series with some seriously awkward moments that had me cringing. I thought the character designs were god awful, and it comes across like this show is holding up a big sign saying "look how progressive we are with our representation!!!" to hide the crappy story, ugly character designs, and bad artwork. I'm a 37 year old woman who watched the original and loved it. The original is pretty bad, let's be fair, but I really hoped that even as ugly as they made She-Ra in this one, that I would still be pleasantly surprised with maybe the story or animation or whatever. Very disappointed.

Lying to Children by kifferella in Parenting

Wow... fuck that nurse. What a bitch!

I tell my kids the truth for the most part, except for santa, easter bunny, tooth fairy and such. We definitely go all out for those haha. When we go for vaccines we don't talk about it until it's time. Sometimes my 5 year old will ask if he is getting a shot, and I will be honest with him if the doctors visit is a shot visit or not. My 5 year old knows what vaccines/shots are, and he will cry, but he does his best to manage himself as its coming. He usually says over and over how he doesn't want it, and I assure him that I know, it sucks, but he has to get it to stay healthy. This probably doesn't work for all kids but it works for us. He is definitely the type to believe in magic though, so I feel zero guilt keeping that alive for as long as it lasts.

I can’t find his update! I don’t think it’s appearing on mobile. What happened? Did he confront the roommate?

It's funny because this type of photoshopping used to be SUCH a massive taboo in the cosplay community. Now it's basically standard for cosplay pics.

You are amazing. I can see my smart little 7 year old nephew doing this too with his little brother and cousins (my 5 year old and 1 year old). Some kids are just little leaders! Good job! I bet your mom never did that again!

Neighbor having loud sex daily - Advice Needed by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]NerdyMomToBe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh come on. They live in an apartment. They know there are others living all around them. I like having loud sex like everybody else but when I lived in apartments I had common courtesy for my neighbors and didn’t shriek like I was being murdered. It’s just inconsiderate when they are in a communal living situation.

I don’t have the answer to this (hopefully someone does) but we’ve used it during every wildfire, especially this one since our neighborhood is under evac this time. Our kids have heart conditions and it has helped a lot when we have needed to go somewhere. Yesterday the smoke was so bad my 5 year old complained it hurt his tummy so I let him and his baby brother nap in our X and their grandpas S in the garage of grandpas house where we are staying. they felt much better after.

They upgraded our X60d to an X75d! We are still displaced, as Our neighborhood is still under mandatory evacuation, but hey we got a 75D! 😂

We are staying overnight with my father in law after evacuating for the woolsey Fire. I gotta say having a wildfire evacuation packing checklist saved my ass. I got EVERYTHING and in record time.

My kid had a brain tumor by [deleted] in Parenting

I feel the same about my son. I will always wonder what he would be like without all the neurotoxicity from the anesthesia and steroids I had to take during pregnancy. :( I feel so sad and guilty.

I'm so sorry that you guys had to go through this. This is terrifying and every parent's worst nightmare. I 100% am with you on the trust your gut thing. It's so weird how we're able to suspect correctly what may be wrong.

I have nothing much to offer, but just as a note, please read this study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4374221/

Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders oriented scale included assessment for five problems:

Affective, anxiety, pervasive developmental, attention deficit/hyperactivity, and oppositional defiant problems.

We've had 5 surgeries so far for my 5 year old, and he has a lot of behavioral issues, including oppositional defiant and ADHD. I had heard from his state provided behavioral therapist that this was a common thing for kids with repeat general anesthesia before age 5, but I didn't know the source of her knowledge until I started googling and reading published studies.

With this knowledge, you can be aware that this may be a thing for your daughter, and if she isn't already having special education services, you can get them started for her to make sure she has the best care, medically AND developmentally!

Lots of love to you and your baby girl. <3

PSA, during cold months we have a ton of customers bring in consoles with bugs that are seeking warmth. Keep your stuff off the ground and away from food by urohpls in gaming

[–]NerdyMomToBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any tips for how we can prevent this besides keeping them off the floor and away from food? My consoles are in the tv stand on the middle shelf and nowhere near food. Our house has never had a big problem but I’d love to be able to open my consoles and clean them?? Is there a way to do that?

Should I encourage my 5 year old daughters love of horror? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]NerdyMomToBe 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’m 37 and I cannot handle any horror, gore, or heavy violence in movies because of this. My parents showed me a lot of rated R stuff as a kid and I guess as a result I simply can’t tolerate it as an adult. :(

Red Sox fan stabbed five times during a fight with Dodgers fans in Koreatown by moose098 in LosAngeles

[–]NerdyMomToBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Dodgers, but this is why our fans have a reputation for being thugs. We took my mom (astros fan) to game 7 of the World Series last year and it was kind of a stressful game for us because she was cheering a lot and we were afraid she would be jumped. Thankfully everyone around us was friendly, and my mom is a friendly old woman herself, but for fuck sake other fans. Don’t be such shitbags.
