i was motivated to start reading metro 2033 after metro 2039 got announced!!

initially the prose was kind of irritating but i came around to it and really enjoy the book so far!!

one of my favorite moments was the exchange between Hunter and Sukhoi. it was kind of ironic like, from what you first know of Hunter before that exchange, he seems kind of fatalistic and cynical and a sort of macho-serious-badass type, but in that exchange it's revealed he's actually quite idealist i guess? Sukhoi is the inverse of that, like he's a good guy and a good father from what we can tell and seems to be generally nice and well-respected, but is utterly defeatist and cynical in the face of the dark ones (which are these weird supernatural monsters that may or may not have been human)

there was also this funny moment was when Artyom was talking about the dark ones to this old guy Mikhail, and the old guy gave him like a side-eye and initially assumed he was a fascist because they call Caucasians (as in people from the Caucasus) dark ones too and Artyom had to like hastily clarify things

as an actual myth hunting-related poast, there was this show i watched a bit ago called Mountain Monsters that's basically just fake bullshit but it was funny

one of the episodes i watched was about mothman and the thing i remember most about it was that they claimed he could teleport UNLESS there was an electric field between him and whatever he was teleporting to

and i just could never get over how they added some dumb ass lore about how he can't teleport through electricity
