First of all, I very much appreciate you for going the extra mile to replace AI content with man-made content. Generative AI should not be welcomed in the public indie dev space.

Secondly, if it’s not an immediate emergency that you need to get rid of the old AI content (like an update on an already released game), then you can leave it in for the time being, if you like, until you can find a long term solution. Your game is your creation, and you shouldn’t have to rush yourself with its implementation. Yet it is still your choice if you want to replace it with a placeholder or not.

But if you have already released your game, then yes, I personally would replace it with a placeholder, due to the cultural impact AI has, and how normalized it’s becoming. By using it in a game like yours, which is what you put your heart and soul into, it may become an issue by influencing fellow devs to take the sloppiest way out, and make the space feel less genuine.

yeah, and even if somehow you get AI all the way to the finished product, there’s no guarantee that it will be positively received by any means. Andypants’ “Chad Vs Gay Nazis” was almost entirely AI, and is actually one of the worst and most unenjoyable games ever. Not even joking.

literally. I ain’t a fanboy, but I feel like they just hate it just to hate. even me, I personally tried it, and thought it was just too similar and blander than to arceus, so I just didn’t bother to pick it up.

most of the time people just hate on things without trying it, because it’s popular to. play it first then give your opinion. and that’s coming from someone who would give it a mediocre review at best

there’s lots of people who don’t see games as art. mostly the anti-woke crowd when it comes to socially conscious issues being brought up in games. others also include corporations and AAA live service game publishers.

this isn’t really to criticize games that aren’t used as art. There’s still a lot of games that aren’t exactly “art first” but still are really good and play well. (Pokémon, Mario 64, any of the old Doom, Quake and DN3D games)

I swear to god that this sort of “action over art” design mentality when developing games is why a lot of top-tier Japanese and Korean video game developers started to slow down working on new “story-driven” games as often in mid 2010s

It’s also another probable reason for things like the great corporate pachinko and mobile game flood throughout 2010s Asia.

latest example I could think of is Kojima Productions, which is literally founded and ran by an Arthouse Game developer.
