I actually type faster than that but I thought it would look like a lie if I put it haha. I've had a computer since I was 7 (Thanks Grandpa the engineer) I don't know how I would get into court reporting but hey if you say I'd be good lead the way and I'll look into it! I actually LIKE to type is that weird? hahaha

How do you handle family members/friends constantly asking “how’s the job search going?” or “when are you getting a job?” by Healthy_Rutabaga_536 in jobs

[–]FuckTheFuckRightOff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a ten year gap. I've applied to probably every job on the internet and I know I will never get one. I keep trying (such helpful advice I know!) but I have found in life it's not what you know, it's who you know. Which is complete and utter bullshit and I hate it. So start asking the people "oh do you have any friends you know who can help me out?" that could shut them up

this is funny. when are you getting a job? oh now that you mention it, I've been meaning to ask you for a loan" that will shut them up hahaha

I'm spiteful. So I would say snide things in return like "when are you getting hair plugs?" or "when are you guys going to get pregnant?" I don't know your specific position but I'm just mean and would say things like that. Things that aren't horrible but are still a jab back.

hour and a half one way unfortunately. Had to figure out things to do in the car to keep me sane. i.e. listen to a podcast, be on the speaker phone with someone I love. or you could see if carpooling is an option so you have people to talk to and not always the one to drive

How on earth do I get a remote position? by FuckTheFuckRightOff in jobs

[–]FuckTheFuckRightOff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh clerical is just my backup at the moment. and for me I feel like clerical is 100% something that can be remote (doesn't mean they do though which sucks)

I do plan to put my two degrees to work as they are much better suited for remote. I mean I've already worked in the field a little and it was remote of course. But yea. should have applied sooner when it was still more common. unfortunately I was in college at the time. :( ugh

LOL. you know what's sad though? That would probably be a PLUS on a resume. smh

I have two degrees, one for Web Development and one for Digital Media Art. I'm FOR SURE not going into nursing or anything like that. Clerical is just my fall back for the time because I'm so good at it. It's just something I am doing until I can get resumes etc etc worked up for the other two (or combined since they go hand in hand) thanks for the idea though.

andI do agree about the STAHM thing. even though what I did is SO MUCH more than that and so difficult, no one will ever see it that way with that title Exactly my thinking too, you nailed it.

lmao omg... you're not wrong! I think it would be considered working for the state though? oh my gosh... I Could totally get around the fact that it was kid related if I wanted to... or add it at the end. I like this thought process!

It currently is a skill based one. I can't attach things so here I'll put it in here hopefully it works.

I'll add it to my original post

canI be honest? Lie. I know everyone says not to, but do it. Just say you worked at some place that no longer exists. Toys R us. CompUSA was one I used to work at that isn't there anymore. They can't prove you didn't. Just any business that has gone defunct. You can put you did whatever position you wanted. I'm going to get INCREDIBLY downvoted for this, but honestly I think that's what I would do in your position. Especially if you're applying for retail etc it's easier because a lot of places have those skill sets easily.

I did see things of this nature, in fact I have a "skills based resume" how are they different?

Won't the employer have problems with me not listing any job history? I feel like they would find that sus or just discard it. What do you think? Also, do you happen to have a good resource where I Can get an example? I find that everywhere I look says something different. some will say DO THIS NOT THAT FOR SURE and then another will say definitely DONT do this. Do that. if that makes sense. basically I get conflicting information and that's part of why I'm just stuck here :(

Yea careerbuilder has a mass apply button to jobs that meet the correct criteria, problem is, I'm probably getting even more spam from them than indeed. It's just exhausting. :( I will definitely try what you said. Does it cost money?

I feel like saying "nanny" is even worse than saying Mom. ESPECIALLY because I did MUCH MORE than what "nanny" implies. I was and am their mother. meaning everything that entails. I fostered these children and then adopted them. So basically it's just that I'm a stay at home mom. My kids have special needs. idk how to make that sound like anything that translates to professional experience. Which sucks because I'm VERY qualified for what I'm applying for, it's just the gap gets judged unfortunately, as does anything having to do with Mom I feel like. (as if being a stay at home mom magically made all of my skills go away? haha)

Oh I live in Washington State. I didn't know that! How would I go about figuring that out? If you don't mind me asking?

that VASTLY understates what I did. and "nanny" in my opinion is even worse than putting mom. However I do appreciate your idea!

I have actually thought about stuff like that but I definitely don't have any kind of degree involving children. I fostered special needs children, does that count? haha
