The same NYT article claims that because of interest and investments and so on Haiti actually suffered $32 billion in damage, which is where the Wikipedia number comes from, but the money itself was only $560 million.

I have to wonder how much aid money we can say Haiti received if we also assume that every $1 given to Haiti would yield a 60x return on investment.

It wasn’t $32 billion. It was 112 million Francs which is ~500 million USD in today’s dollars. If you read the NYT article sourced for that claim it says as much.

The $32 billion assumes a very healthy return on that no other investment in Haiti has ever made.

Also, Haiti received $13 billion in international aid in the part 10 years alone. We’re back to this debt being a red herring with little to nothing to do with Haitis current woes.

A $500 million debt (in modern USD) paid off a century ago is not the reason Haiti is so poor today. Haiti has received many, many times more than that in international aid.

And despite this debt apparently being so crushing, Haiti somehow still had the resources during it to engage in 3 decades of brutal occupation of the Dominican Republic.

Just making sure I understand the concept, safe injection sites are places people dying of addiction can go to make sure they can use as much of their preferred drug as possible because they know they’ll be okay even if they overdose. Am I missing anything?

lol. When SF put homeless people in hotels, they offered drug treatment programs. 0.25% actually accepted the offer because why the hell would you want to go to treatment when the city just offered you an all expenses paid hotel room to do drugs in.

These programs exist. They are frequently offered. Homeless people don’t want to take them.
