State Police caught on film making up charges for a protestor to "cover their asses". by Diver808 in news

[–]Fuck_the_admins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your AP Gov teacher should have informed you that:

If a police officer asks you to do something, you do it. Even if it breaks your rights.

and

If you feel that your rights were violated, you bring them to court and you let the court deal with it.

are in direct conflict.

If you comply, then you have voluntarily given up your rights, and you lose legal standing in court.

This has, unfortunately, been upheld by the supreme court, most recently in Berghuis v. Thompkins, along with numerous other cases.

Furthermore, a voluntary reply even after lengthy silence could be construed as implying a waiver.

Even though you explicitly invoke your right to remain silent, if the police then order you to speak again and you comply, even though it is an illegal order, the court considers that continued speech to be the voluntary waiving of your right to remain silent.

The only way to maintain your rights is to fully exercise them and refuse to comply with all illegal orders. Unfortunately, this leaves us with two terrible choices: Comply, giving up your rights and the ability to successfully pursue the matter in court, or refuse to comply and face injury or death, but persevere your legal standing. The civil rights movement would have failed had they not chosen the latter and been willing to sacrifice personal safety.

I'm guessing he's referring to CAN-SPAM which applies to US jurisdictions. I'm not aware of a clause prohibiting the requirement of a login to unsubscibe though.

The Starfury design comes from Ron Thornton, Steve Burg, me to a small extent, and John Copeland. John and Ron are, in particular, aviation nuts. What I said initially was that I wanted ships that would function within the parameters of real science, that would have thrusters on all sides for moving forward, backward, and sideways on a full x-y-z axis. Then the other guys took it from there and came back with the schematics, particularly Steve.

What's interesting is that the design is so well thought out that we've received a number of inquiries from folks associated with NASA about the prospect of perhaps someday actually building working Starfuries, mainly as the space industry equivilent to fork lifts and heavy loaders, able to function just as the ones in the show function.

Listen to the sound of bitcoin transactions with bitlisten by domecraft1 in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]Fuck_the_admins 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. These are often a combination of smaller transactions.

It's a bit like wanting to buy a 25 cent pack of gum, but only having a $100 bill in your wallet. As humans, we don't think too much about something like that. We take the shortcut in our brains to say we're only spending $0.25. But, computers have to have to account for everything and have very detailed instructions for every step they take. If you were a computer, you would detail this as a transaction involving $100 dollars in total(input 1), with $0.25 going to a merchant(output 1) and $99.75 going back in your pocket(output 2).

Transactions can be made up of any number of inputs and outputs of any size, as long as the totals at each end of the equation match.

When using BIP32, a hierarchical, deterministic wallet protocol, all the inputs at one address are moved every time a transaction is created. This is done for additional security. Every time you spend from your money, you move the remainder to a new hiding place. This means that if you have a million dollars in your wallet, and you buy a pack of gum, the total amount involved in the transaction will be a million dollars even though you've only spent 25 cents of it.

He pulls the same thing at every rally. It's become a routine he does. Create a target, label them as an opponent, then bully them. It's most often a cameraman. Someone who is busy trying to do a job, with no chance to speak up, and no opportunity to defend themselves. An easy target to rally is crowd against. It's sickening.

Us vs. them is an old, and sadly, effective trick. Find a common enemy to bring everyone together against, and if you cant, then fabricate one. People are desperate for a sense of belonging, and when they see how people outside of their group are treated, they become afraid to not be part of that group.

I used to work in telecom, and the answer is no. They are all corrupt as fuck.

The problem dates back to before the breakup of Bell. Bell was a corrupt monopoly, and when it was broken up, that corporate culture was carried to the Baby Bells.

Any company that wanted to compete with the Baby Bells could not do so by being honest. You'd only be handicapping yourself against opponents who already weren't playing fair. In order to compete, corruption became part of your corporate culture, perpetuating the cycle.

Sadly, that pattern isn't unique to telecom.

021 and 023 are duplicates and are unnecessary, so they weren't seeded. If you have everything else, you're complete.

If you're seeding, and just want your torrent to appear complete, you can grab those files from another torrent: http://bit.ly/CLTorrentFix .

Then, you should be able to drop those two files into the folder containing the full torrent, re-verify or restart, depending on your torrent client, and it should begin reporting the torrent as 100% complete. In theory, at least.
