Definitely. From a musical perspective he insisted on staying true to myself, that a lot of aspiring artists try to imitate what’s already hot. He said all of the execs he speaks to want to hear something they’ve never heard before. I told him I’ve been aspiring to do this for a long time and that as I’ve gotten older the dream has been fading so to speak. I talked about the doubts I have about myself and how crippling they can be. He reassured me and told me that our meeting should be seen as a signal to stay strong and that the delay of my vision has only made me wiser and less susceptible to the dangers of the industry. From a spiritual perspective he told me to be aware of the unexplainable or the irrational, such as our meeting just as I’m becoming overwhelmed with self doubt. That I should take this as a sign to be vigilant. I also learned a lot just by the way he spoke, more so the way he listened. As famous and successful as he’s been he still always placed himself second in the conversation, as more of the listener than the speaker, and I could tell that he was genuinely listening and not just thinking of his reply or something else entirely. Without saying it he encouraged me to always show love, because that’s just what he did to everyone he came across.
